My 71 K5
Hi everyone-
I am new to this site and I have read several builds and I love the knowledge that is shared here. I am a proud Blazer owner and I'm in the middle of the restoration. She is a 1971 4spd 4x4. A new 6" soft ride lift has been installed with 35" baha claw radials on 15" classic locks. It is currently at a body shop waiting on it's new skin (don't shoot me for not doing it myself). As soon as I get to a computer I will post some pics. I mainly use my iPhone. I pretty well have everything to finish the exterior with the exception of a inner grill. I bought a billet grill but changed my mind. Blazer body will look stock with the exception of a cowl hood. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: My 71 K5
I am using truck doors on my blazer and the window frame has already been cut. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to the door to match a factory blazer door. I'm trying to find some caps but I'm not sure what I'll have to do to mount them???

Re: My 71 K5
The first four pics on the last thread were sent to me by previous owner before I bought the blazer. Here is one on the way to the body shop and a couple of it after some primer was applied. Now for the bad part. The blazer has been at the body shop for a year. Im patiently waiting for its return. I trying to figure out what color to paint it. I'm leaning towards hugger orange but after the blue blazers thread I found a blue in the I really like. What do you all think?

Re: My 71 K5
and some more!! I'll get some more soon. . . . . . I personally haven't worked one this in a year and I'm dying to get it back. I have a double wall top on it now but I'm looking for a single wall (good luck right). I also have a brand new soft top for it, I can't remember the brand. I haven't looked at it in 2 years. Let me know what you guys think of my ride.

It's right here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...02#post2600102
Go back to the 1969-1972 Blazer and Jimmy message board home page, click on the thread '1969 - 1972 Blazer and Jimmy Index Thread' and search through all of those threads. There is a ton of great info there. Have fun! |

Re: My 71 K5
I'm partial to the orange....always have been. It's not like you see a ton of these around, but in this area there seems to be a lot of blue ones.
With that said, if some of your interior is usable it may be easier to go blue. |

Re: My 71 K5
That door panel came with that truck door. I have nicely recovered original seats with black cloth. I'm wanting to have a black interior with aluminum tread plate front and rear panels.

Re: My 71 K5
Does anyone know where I can get ahold of the little brass braces that are mounted to the blazer door and pillar? I didn't realize those even exsisted till I read the thread about converting truck doors to blazer doors. Are they reproduced? Or does someone have any extra for $$

Re: My 71 K5
Talked to the body man yesterday and says the doors are in primer and are now rust free!!! I also think I have a lead on a set of those brass door braces. I plan on going up to check on it soon.

Re: My 71 K5
Well this blazer is not going any where fast. I did go see it at the body shop and the work looks great. The bad news is that I probably won't get it back for a couple if months. They have had it for a year and three months now. Hopefully I do get it before it gets warm out. They did bust my windshield when removing it, so I guess I need to get one of those too. . . . . In the mean time I'll work on my budget build that I just picked up. It really helps when you've worked on one already and I have the support of you guys out there reading and cheering on these builds. Thanks and keep on keepin on!!

Re: My 71 K5
Went to the body shop today and they are getting close to paint time. My doors, fenders, dash, quarters are ready for paint. I took him a better tailgate than what was on it as I am going to have him paint the inside of the tailgate body color and the old one was beat up pretty bad. He still has a little work on the cowl panel and he said a little on the hood (its a new cowl induction). The rear 4 or 5 inches of the bed will need some new metal before paint as well. I'm hoping to see this thing in my garage soon. I think I'm going to have to sell my new budget build 72 so I can finish the interior. In the mean time I have collected a few parts for when I get it back. I have a gas tank skid plate, front door panels with new arm rests, steering wheel, a single wall top (I need a new rear hatch for it), new gas tank, and a few other small things. I'll get some new pics as soon as I get some.

Re: My 71 K5
So I just got a call from the guy doing the body work and I will be picking it up the first of this next week, after he puts it back together. Basically he doesn't feel that he will be able to finish it anytime in the near future. So now I have my sweet unfinished ride back. ... The new plan: I'm going to do as much of what needs to be done before it needs paint myself. I know the bed floor needs some work. I will till it's back to see the rest. I'll take picks when it's back and I start posting progress as it happens. I had a bad feeling this would happen ;(

Re: My 71 K5
After getting a call from the lack of a body guy, i pick up unfinished blazer. so now time for update!! The body guy did a horrible job, the lower quarter patch panels fit like crap, the passenger inner and outer rocker looks like a kid did it. My passenger door won't even close all the way because it hits the rocker. he didn't fix the bed. . . . . . So, I've decided that I'm going to finish it. I'm starting on the bed floor so I can build some confidence. It needs several patches, but i figured ill cover it with something eventually. I took the drivers wheel well out, its the worst side, ill have the other sider out soon. Now, I have to get some decent patches.

Re: My 71 K5
Not much of an update but I did pick up a few parts. How rare is a factory radio delete cowl vent? I pick up one and a set of perfect rear wheel tubs. i have also picked up a new rear seat upholstry with scroll. I also talked to a new body guy yesterday. Im alittle scared to start this process over after the last guy screwed me. Im waiting on his estimate, he said he would get back to me in a day or two.
