71 c10 350/350 questions!

Hello, I'm not sure if this should go under Engine/Drivetrain section...since my truck is a 67-72 C10 i figured i might get the most help here in this part of the forum. If it needs to be moved then can it be moved to the proper section.

Well here we go...

In the first image
1. I have two lines going from the charcoal canister to this area. It seems to be missing a plug wire. I think it is incomplete. The carb is not the original(it has a reman sticker on the backside) I figure it was part of some emmisions attachment. I plan on removing this item to clean up the engine area.

2. I saw somewhere else on this forum in a picture( can't find it now) that the thin line can be attached to this vacuum port labeled 2 is this correct?

3. The thicker line can i attach it to the line coming out of the passenger VC line. On my truck it runs to the back of the carb and is threaded you can see it circled on the third pic. can i use a T fitting on this. (once again saw it on a picture just can't find the thread anymore)

The second image
1. this is a loose linkage that is just hanging there not connected to anything..any ideas what it does and where it goes?

2. This little box bolted to the intake?? Purpose and do i need it since it doesn't look like it is connected to anything or how should it be?

the third image
Any ideas on how to attach my kickdown cable to this carb. I heard it is suppose to be kept level, so it works properly.

Also if you look at the pics..My HEI doesn't have a vacuum advance...is this normal? If i suppose to have one...what HEI should i be using. And can i use the vacuum port marked 4 in the first pic.

This is the way I got the truck from the PO and i just wanna get it running right I have already been cleaning up the hack job on the wiring it had. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Re: 71 c10 350/350 questions!

1st Pic, I'll take a Pic of my 71-C10 or look & see which is what.
Looks like the PO swapped the Valve covers side to side. PCV should be on driver side front and Breather hose should be on passenger side rear but, will work either way.

2nd Pic = Linkage is for the Divorced Choke, should connect to linkage & coiled spring in box but, looks like the parts may be gone or have dropped into box.

3rd Pic = The Detent cable should be hooked where the return spring is on Carb Throttle linkage. There should be a Stud & E-clip in that hole. Return spring can be on same Stud, mine was.

You do need an HEI w/Vac advance, it can be hooked to "Full Vac" port #4 or lower on Carb base "Ported Vac" port. Most stock Cammed engines work better with Ported Vac to Ditributor.
