No tachometer?
Hi,
'72 Chevy C20. I don't have a tachometer. I do have the area for it on the gauge cluster, but it's "blank," no needle, no rpm gauge. Is that something normal for this year of Chevy?

Very few trucks actually came with the tachometer.

OK you asked for it.
The "tacometer" was a rare Mexico only option. j/k the tachometer was an option, but your truck probably didn't come with one. Check you glove box SPID and see if one was listed. |

Yeah tach clusters weren't standard. Heck tach clusters go for a pretty penny in the market

Tsk, Tsk....your age is showing when you believe that a missing tachometer means something is wrong with your truck.:lol
Tachs were an option on a lot of vehicles. Trucks didn't get one unless you got a guage package with something else that didn't relate. More cars had them as standard equipment, but even the 88-98's had to be a certain trim level or part of a package to get a tach. When the '67-72's were new, a tach was an option on most new cars, much less trucks. Since trucks weren't considered to be a performance vehicle, tachs are few and far between. With the aftermarket of today, I'm going to guess that there are more 67-72's with a tach than were ever built by GM.

I run an "in-belly" tacometer.It let's me know when I'm low on tacos.It's very accurate.
Gauges were options in vehicles back then.Standard vehicles came with warning or also known as "idiot lights".Buy the time they lit up it was "DOH!" time.Nowadays about gauges are in everything and people still run out of coolant or oil and blow their motors.I guess they had "idiot gauges" .I know '92s didn't come with a tach.I had to order mine.

I think I read only 3% of light duty trucks were ordered w a tach. Same said for manual throttle, and am/fm radios.
