Two Tone Paint Schemes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi Everyone,

I will eventually paint my truck (or get it painted) after I am finished fixing it up. My truck is a 1972 Chevy C10, and is a base model. It has no trim or anything to separate paint colors. Has anyone painted their truck two tone without trim? Does anyone have the stock paint combinations?

The stock two-tones are Standard,Conventional,and Deluxe.They are all divided with moldings.

Standard:Accent color on top divided by trim at base of top under window at rear of cab.

Conventional:Accent color on top (divided as above) and on side below lower molding.

Deluxe:Accent on top (divided as above) ,on side between lower and upper moldings,and on tailgate below upper tailgate trim.

So, would it be weird if I added molding to my truck in order to make it two tone? Do you have any picture examples of Standard, Conventional, or Deluxe?

No,not at all.What year is your truck?All three schemes weren't available in every year,but can and have been done custom.

I don't want to go completely change the subject on you guys here, but I am also curious about how much drop I should give my truck. From what I've seen, i think a 4/6 drop looks good.

Trim separating the different colors makes more sense than a solid color with the upper/lower trim...in my opinion. I removed all of the trim from my truck and going back with black. Thinking has run the gamut of emotions from a different color (orange, red, yellow), then I thought about a suede finish, with flames of yellow, orange and red. When the idea sank in, I realized the same prep goes into a flat/suede finish as for a glossy finish, and decided that gloss black w/flames would be right. Now, I'm thinking that gloss black, with a thin red pinstripe from front to back, like originally offered as an option (there's a code for it), would be a good thing.

But, I've seen black/red, black/white and black/yellow 2-tones, although pix of them are not on my computer.

I ordered an Astro in '88 that had that style of 2-tone. I prefer the trim on that style of 2-tone, but that's just me.

Gonna jack the thread a little here but still on topic. I'm thinking of using the ridge that goes under the windows and around the hood as a "break" on color with yellow under and metalic dark gray on top...any opinions...pinstrip? Anybody got any pics of this?

Not sure what you mean Gad. Like different types of designs or materials?
I know I'll get corrected by the "Brain trust" here, and that's a good thing, but different years had different types of trim and different areas where the trim was placed.
Could you use, say, 70 trim on a 67? Sure. I've never seen it.

Well, aren't there many types of trim? There's the chrome stuff, the wood paneling stuff, the black stuff, etc.
