front end








pick up a dual horn, at a local swap meet. $5 came with wire harness and 2 highs and two lows, one for each side but i only used one.

the factory location for the battery on the newer Silverados is on the left side, and since I had the factory harness from a Silverado, I decided to move the battery location to the left side. So being the cheap ass that I am, couldn't see dropping 50 bucks for one out of the catalog. so I made my own.

went to the salvage yard and grab a tray from a 94 chevy or something like that for $5. I then cut the mounting tab off of the side and moved it to the rear of the tray



then cut a pie section out, so it would form around the inner fender, and I could bolt it from the underside for support. then welded in a piece of metal.





told you my welds are ugly, but no one will see it where this is going



ran it through the blast cabinet and then shot some paint on it.





drilled the holes in the fender well and the core support, as you can see i drilled one to many





bolted it up and then hook the cables up,







wish I had a side post battery, only but you work with what you got.

Love the tray idea! I hope to use the same plan on mine since I'm going to keep as much as the original harness as possible. BTW, I am a cheap a$$ too.

Nice work on the battery tray. That was a good idea. It works a whole lot better with the battery over there.

No, I'm not. according to my programmer I dont need one if my engine is fairly stock.

Called the wife and kids out to the garage, for this glorious moment. when I tried to start the engine for the first time, it wouldn't start or run. after a few minutes of me cranking, and some cussing. They must of got the feeling that the show was over. cause they all just slowly went back inside. (iv seen this before.) So now Im thinking to myself and resiting the 3 basics all engines need. First I checked ignition, with my timming light. every cylinder was firing. Next, shot some starting fluid down the throttle body, and it would start and run till the starting fluid burnt up. I Then put my fuel pressure gauge to it. it had pressure to the rail. Ok! What the hell is going on here. I posted the question on the forum got so good suggestions, and asked my PCM programmer, Brenden at LT1swap, He suggested I check the injectors, they might be cloged or "stuck" from sitting.
So I took out the injectors and put one in the vice Poured cleaner into the top of the injector. Made a simple wire harness, one side went to the power on the battery charger. The other I dragged across the negitive clamp on my charger. this resulted in the injector pulsing open and closed very fast instead of just staying opening.



At first I dint hear the injector pulsing at all but after a few minutes i started to get some nasty stuff out of it.



I went ahead and did this to all the injectors, then soaked them over night in cleaner. The next day, i had to run to the parts store for new injector orings. The cleaner had swelled them. should have taken them off but was sidetracked. After the orings were in I put the injectors back in the rail. i have a OTC injector cleaner, that will pressureize the rail to bypass the fuel pump for cleaning purposes.



So I hooked that up and used the same trick as I did on the bench and fired one injector at a time, this time with 55 psi behide them.



Sprayed cleaner through the injector into a little catch can a.k.a. wifes storage container (she let me keep that one). did that to all injectors till it looked like i had a good spray pattern.



Put all the injectors back in and fired the engine. she started and ran. it was a little loud with no exhaust but it was great just to her in run.

Good job on cleaning the gunk out of the injectors. What are you using for a power stearing pressure hose? I need to replace mine. Nobody local makes hoses any more. Thanks.

Congrats on your startup! Brenden is the man! He did my programing on my 454 Vortec.

I got lucky and mine fire right up the first time. But a couple days later when I went to start it again it wouldnt start.... Luckly I found the problem (shorted power wire) and fixed it and it started right up again.

I am extreamly proud, Ill show it off to anybody who will look at it. even tied up the fedex guy for 15min or so the other day, and you know how busy those guys are. I cant help but think of how the next one will look, now that I have at least a clue as to what im doing.

hey Mike, i'm a little late to the party but i git a question... what is that relay for behind the battery on the core support? i just recently chopped off that huge hot wire that comes off the battery terminal thats going to your relay. (hope i didn't get carried away)

thats my main battery feed for my wire harness. instead of running it of the alt or starter, I ran it thru a circuit breaker from the battery. Dont know if its any better or safer.
