Question What came with the custom package?

For a 1969, what special items came with the "custom" package? (30 series if that matters)

Thanks,

Bob

Re: What came with the custom package?

Custom was an appearance package only, as was CST.

CST got:
Exterior:
lower trim, woodgrain
Aluminum, not painted, headlight buckets
Stainless window trim and chrome vent windows
Chrome bumpers
Interior:
Arm rests L&R
Carpet
Sun visors L&R

Customs, so far as I have been able to figure out:
Exterior:
lower trim, black
Aluminum, not painted, headlight buckets
Chrome bumpers

Likely this is not a complete list, but it's what I've seen

Re: What came with the custom package?

All 69/70s had painted black steel headlight bezels.
The custom was the medium trim level. You got bright work at the windows, fancy dash knobs/pedals,cloth seat inserts/vinyl door panels, pickups got the lower black accented side moldings/trim on tailgate(w/lower-w/o band)matching rubber mat...there were other items I can't think of right now,but that covers the trim.Things like bumpers, mirrors, and hubcaps were painted.

Question Re: What came with the custom package?

Thanks guys. I'm asking this because of the wrecker I just bought.

Some of the things mentioned are not on this truck.

It has black dash knobs, regular pedals (no trim), vinyl seat with a design in center and no body trim. ?? I never saw the door panels but probably the vinyl ones as someone got them. It doesn't even have a rear view mirror and no holes ever drilled for one.

What it does have is the custom 30 emblems on both fender and custom on the glove door, the chrome on front and rear windows and the wing windows. Has the rubber mat. Has chrome trim above door panels. This one has the stainless mirrors too.

Oddball?

If there are no holes for the mirror, the cab is a '72 - only year it was windshield mounted. Sounds like you've got a spare parts monster to me!

Special-K, my truck is (with the exception of an overspray) 100% original on the exterior - there is no paint on my headlight bezels, just on the Chevrolet stamping in the grille (which is weathered but mostly there). They're supposed to be painted?

Actually, the rear view mirror was still an option in 69. If it didn't get one, there would be no holes. I have seen that quite often on the c-30s. I suppose the 30 series could have an enclosed box, or something similar and the mirror would be useless.
Also, the 69-70 headlight bezels should be black as far as i know.

Re: What came with the custom package?

Now that you mention it,my '70 Cstom Camper/30 had the Custom package with standard pedals and maybe the knobs were black.I just don't recall, but I believe not.The 69-72 Stepsides and cab & chassis trucks didn't get the side trim, that I am aware of.The chrome strips indicate the vinyl door panels.

Yes,they were steel and would get rusty. When people replace them, all that's available is the polished aluminum and many just like that look better.I'm not sure why your's would have been replaced if nothing was never repaired or restored, unless the p.o. just liked the look better.I did my '70 Custom Camper/30 that way when I put a new grille in.That's all that was available through GM and the old steel ones would leave rust streaks without blasting the backs and painting.
