Morning Guys--

Where do most of you source your maintenance parts from, as in, thermostat, hoses, etc? Just curious. I've always been a NAPA fan as they seem to sell higher quality products than the "other" parts stores.

I read you thread on the truck, totaly awesome deal. I am pretty new to this as well so I cant answer your question here....but I didnt know if you knew about this place for any "replacement parts" for these old trucks and such, they have just about everything, even that sterring wheel

Napa is where I buy most of my small parts. Part of the reason is because its close, usually good parts, the counter people are very knowledgeable, and ease of return if I order the wrong thing. Not to mention gas prices for running to the nearest O'reiley's. I think you can save a few bucks if you open an account with them. It wouldn't hurt to ask anyway.

This is the order in which I get parts, Internet, O'Rielly's, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Fishers, Napa.

Around here I find that Napa Auto Parts are more expensive and it takes longer to get non stock items.

I use the internet first to make sure I am going to get the right part at the best price and quality at the box stores.

A lot depends on a person's budget and what they want their truck to be. I have never built a show truck, all of mine have been daily drivers or workers.

Vendor's on the board are a great resource for sheet metal and non stock suspension and such. Also the parts section of this forum has a lot of stuff.

I buy mine from Parts Plus because they have quality parts , have a account with them and pay jobber price, delivered right to my toolbox, and if there is a problem they will pick up the old and bring another one.

For this kind of stuff, I normally go to Advance Auto because they're close to the house and open in the evening and on Sunday. I'm not a big fan of O'Reilly's because they are normally staffed by a bunch of knothead knownothings.

For parts, i.e. brake parts, water pumps, etc., I go to CarQuest that's just up the street. I've not noticed a significant (if any) price difference from the discount places. But in the case of this store (in Lenexa, KS) it's in the same building as a CarQuest warehouse/distribution center, so even if they don't have something in the store, they can run across the hall to the distribution center and get it.

If you dont care about quality go to the Zone, O'R or Advance. If you do, go to Carquest or NAPA. All Carquest stores are owned by the company, as are the other 3 above, but NAPA can be owned by the co or an independant jobber.. and you can get a better price if you ask for it or show them someone else is beating them. Carquest is usually higher then NAPA. All of them stock similar applications, NAPA computers show lost sales and bring in stock if they lose a few sales. NAPA is the only company who sells Echlin engine mgmt and Belden wires, and I wont use anything else on my truck.

I normally try for one of the two NAPA places in town. There's one that caters more towards mechanics and shops and they seem to know what's what whereas the other is pretty clueless and no better than any of the other stores. The only problem is that the better store is only open M-F 8-5 which can make it tough to get to.

When all else fails the internet is the best source if you have time to wait, but it's always good to have a counter person and store you can trust. Fortunately enough there's a couple good ones here in my town.
