Re: road trips???

Farthest I've went in mine is to lake tahoe and back, about 300 miles round trip. I got about 12 miles to the gallon, not bad for having 4.56 gears and a 350 with a holley.

Re: road trips???

Lots of miles, lots of joy. Bought a 72 GMC 3500 in New Jersey, got in and drove it home to New Mexico - about 3,000 miles. Met a nice 1969 Chevrolet C80 Fire Truck in Illinois and started out to drive it home in a true blizzard - got here (NM) three or four days later and had added over 2,000 miles to the odometer, and it only had 9,000 to begin with. Found a nice old 70 Chevrolet C20 Longhorn at good price up near Seattle, got in and drove it home - about 1,900 miles. All of the above seems minor compared to the thousands of miles (about 30,000) we have driven all over the US in our 72 Chevrolet C30 MoHome - one trip was over 7,000 miles. And, a 1972 Blazer out back has been my hunting truck for about 20 years - who knows how many trips of what length? The above engines range from SB 327 and 350 to BB 402 and V6 478. The fuel mileage for all varies a bit depending on usage, but usually a low of 11 mpg and sometimes 15 mpg. All of these trucks look pretty good and do not have rust issues, but none are restored or anywhere near show quality. I do not like to worry about nicks and chips, believe that these are not to be coddled or altered for racing, merely to be well-cared-for and used as what they are - really great old trucks.

Re: road trips???

I haven't yet taken a road trip in the truck per se, but my daily commute is about 30 miles, and I'm getting about 11 mpg @ 55 mph. Not real happy with that, it's just a stock 350 with an Edelbrock carb and what I think is a 3.73 or 4.11 axle out back.

Re: road trips???

Mine went 1300 miles from Arkansas to Arizona for work, Towing my 5500 lb travel trailer and VTX 1800 motorcycle in bed. About 11 mpg. Its 68 C20, 5.3 with 4.56 gears. Soon to be 3.54 rear. Made it back to Arkansas with only a leaking power steering hose. Oh and the OK city potholes shook my core support nuts, washers and rubber spacers off. Shuold have bent the tabs over.

Re: road trips???

the furthest distance I've driven mine is just under 50 miles from home. No real need to drive anywhere further. It gets 10 mpg on a good day, with a built 250 with 3.73 gears and a 3 spd.

Re: road trips???

I guess the farthest I have driven my '71 when it had the 350 was one night when my wife had a car wreck about 50 miles from where I worked at the time. I did not get a chance to check the mileage though. She was lucky and was not hurt because of the seat belt and air bag, but the car was totaled.

I figure the truck when it had the 350 got in the 12-14 range with the 3.73 gears and 31 inch tires. I drove it easy then, mostly 55 or less.

I have not driven it farther than 10 miles with the 454 that is now in it and I am sure the mileage was not so good because I kept playing.

I have a 350 with a TH350 and a Quadrajet. Is 9-12 MPG all I should expect?

Re: road trips???

I have driven the White '67 to Auburn, Nebraska once (500mi round trip) and KC, Missouri twice (500mi round trip). The 454 gets about 12 mpg with the TH400 & 3.73's. Great driving truck!

I drove the Red/White '71 4x4 to KC, Missouri once and got right at 14 mpg with it. (350/TH350/3.73's. Rode pretty nice for a 4x4...

Re: road trips???

Oklahoma to Ohio and back, 2200 miles round trip, did it in '08. The very tired 305 it had at the time got 14-15 mpg at 65-70mph on that trip.

I drove it home from Utah the first day I got her...400 miles and about 12-13 mpg

At the begining of October we drove her from Corona to A****er to attend the C10 BBQ. Pretty sure that was close to 600+ miles round trip

Re: road trips???

NC to northern WV. 424 miles at about 12 mpg with a 350/T350/3.08. Unless you have really low gearing or an other than stock engine, I think 12 mpg or better is about right.

Re: road trips???

I love road trippin' my truck, and do it frequently. I went to San Diego a couple weeks ago. 800 miles round trip. I had a good tailwind on the way home, and got 15mpg.
