Re: 1947 3100

Hey, Nice build I'm going the same combo 5.3 w/4l80E. Ouch on the rust, I'm in Mass we have a lot of rust too. My 47 came from the south too but it wasn't as rough. You have your work cut out for you as far rust goes...I have a post in the build section under this user name.

have to buy rear cab panel, cab mount braces and dash.good thing you get everything for these trucks.bad thing is shipping costs to here.
-drip rails or not???? hard to decide...have new ones but unsure what looks best..

Re: 1947 3100

some progress done a few weeks ago.always nice when new stuff are bashed as seen in pics,lh bedside and rh rear fender are transportdamaged.nothing to do about that other than fix.everybody got a big laugh when they saw my bed mount kit from LMC.-wood blocks, hope its cedar, otherwise its not gonna last long here before its rotted out.(the old bed was just dumped on frame-no blocks, only rear bolts).

Re: 1947 3100

If the shipping costs weren't so high I have a cowl top that you could have for the cost of shipping. Or even a section of it if that helps.
It's off this cab
http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w...rent=001-1.jpg A bit of surface rust but otherwise solid. I'm going to use the roof and back half of that cab but not the cowl.

Re: 1947 3100

making a filler panel and cutting the top out past the rust should work fine. And yes my parts cab is probably quite a bit better than a lot of them that guys start with. The front floor boards and foot rest area are the bad places in it. Before I'm done that cab will be parts of several trucks.

Re: 1947 3100

the salvage GMC was done in 2 weeks(after workhours)and hope I find some time to keep working on the chevy.got the inner window area, cab back wall, dash and cab mounts ,so I should have it all now.....
do you american people belive me if I say a new chevy/gmc crew cab costs 250000.??
that why all trucks after 2007 are regular cabs over here-green licence plates and 1/3 of full taxes.-cant have back seat.

Gotta love those "almost free rust" trucks, pun intended. Sorry one of my fellow Americans appears to have stiffed you on that one.

So why no trucks with back seats there? I know they love to tax everything but what's the deal? Is it a fuel conservation thing or?

-new cars are taxed by HP-engine size-weight of car,new camaro is 250000-270000 dollars (over 2 million Norwegian kroner).
-most trucks/vans was first titled as LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS(wich is a tax free like tractors) here-given new total gross weight.(gave them much higher factory weight)
-I have to have a special licence to drive them titled like that, almost like big rig.
-so after beeing titled 10 years the higher factory weight can be reversed and can get new title as a ordinary car-and drive with nomal licence.
-our sosialist goverment found out they lost a lot of taxes from this an put a stop to it.so now its only"varebil"-(delivery car).1/3 of car tax.
WE can do the same to 10 year old "delivery car" -New title-back seat.
SO THAT was also stopped in 2007.after 2007 its only regular cabs so that we can't put back seat in after 10 years.

Re: 1947 3100

vintage cars/trucks are free of taxes, must be 30 years.
"only" 25% of cost of car to goverment.that is same with parts also.

Wow. I sure got lucky with mine. I only had to replace one cab corner. Nice to see that is a true 1947 cab.
