Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
I like the black on the tranny. Makes it more detailed, and different.

I'm just getting my garage set up today to paint my tranny --- was wondering if you primered yours before painting or not? If you did, how long did you wait inbetween spraying the primer and spraying the paint? I'm not sure if I should spray the primer on my tranny, then leave it sit for 3 days and then spray it with the paint?? Thanks!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Driveway Dreams - Dude you don't how I appreciate those comments; I use those as motivation when it feels like nothing is moving as well as comments from all the members of this entire board. I want to show as others that anything can be done on your own and the use of this board and its members' knowledge. I can't wait to get the motor/drivetrain in with the smoothed Driveway Dreams intake cover. I believe once I finalize the plan on how I want it done then it's going to set it off. My whole objective from the start, even with the TBI build, is to go with a more "sinister" type engine bay keeping it stock/semi-custom look. Most of all keeping the cost down as much as possible.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Gordon1973 - Hey boss; actually all i did was buy the Dupli-Color 500 degree engine primer (grey) and the Dupli-Color 500 degree aluminum rattle can from O'reilly. I mad sure that I got as much of the dirt, oil, etc removed. I mainley used brake parts cleaner (Wal-mart) brand, some small and large wire brushes, some scotch brite pads. After I got it as clean as I could I sprayed the primer and I let it dry for about 30 - 40 minutes; even though it was probably dry before then, I was doing other things in the house. I then sprayed a light coat of aluminum waited about 15-16 minutes then sprayed another light coat of aluminum, waited another 15-16 minutes then a 3rd and final coat of aluminum, not a light coat, the 3rd one was heavier giving it a wet look. since it was a little cool I turned on my dual heat lamps on high about 2-3 feet away from the tranny and that was it. I waited about an hour or so and it was fine. We'll see how it holds up. But hell it looks pretty good on the stand.lol lol

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Thanks twoodson, that's good to know that I can do both on the same day.
It's cool in my garage too right now so I'll turn up the heat lamps too overnite. This is what the weather was up here this morning!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
I forgot to post these a while back. I received this from our very own Jeff Drew who runs the "brother" of this site 73-87.com..lol All I can say is high quality pieces and I will have the speaker and wiring cover powder coated polished ceramic. Time for me to tear down my original gauge cluster and use the brackets to install them instead of the hot glue. Thanks Jeff for the pkg deal.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!
Okay gents here is a small update. We got the one rocker bolt hole helicoiled and bolted in. We also got the water pump installed, thermostat housing with new thermostat, the valve covers bolted down. We will get the crankshaft pulley locked down on hopefully Monday. I should be painting the throttle body silver sometime tonight or tomorrow. Not much progress but nevertheless making some. Here are a couple of pics. Enjoy!!
