Will this distributor fit?

When I put my 350 in the inline position, will this big distributor fit? Is anyone running this same set up?

I've never had an issue putting a stock GM HEI in a small block 4x4, and those sit pretty far back in the engine bay. Can't speak for the V8 in the i6 position though.

Had you done the "proper" thing and put the small block where it's supposed to be, you would not have this question. Oh what a tangled web we weave... J/K

It will fit, but It will be tight to the fire wall. When I put a 350 in my old 67 on the 250 mounts, I had HEI.

I had a really tough time deciding how to install this engine, but my budget is damn near gone and I want this thing to run. I also talked with 3 guys that have done the swap both ways and they say that putting the engine farter back is the way to go. When you put a V8 in the right place on a 6 cylinder truck, you get to much wheel hop at the rear. But when they did the same swap and put it in the inline position, they never had that problem. So that was one of the big deciding fastors.
Thanks for the input guys

engine farter
If your engine is a "farter", wheel hop won't be an issue.

Good luck, the HEI should fit

I6 4x4

What most guys here call the I6 position is the V-8 position in a 4x4 position. Waaaay back. It's difficult to get an HEI in & out, but once it's in there, there is just barely enough room for it. Some guys hammer the firewall for more clearance.

MSD sells a small diameter HEI. It is in the Summit catalog.

my 383 is in 6/250 position, & the body is aslo dropped 1 1/2" over the rails. The HEI fits , but is d@mn tight! it will go in/out of the eng with the cap & rotor removed. The firewall has been modified around the heads for a BB olds that I ran ......but the center of the firewall is stock(not hammered, or otherwise modified). when it comes time to replace that HEI, I am going to use the small cap MSD that Don has mentioned. Good luck, crazyL
