Header Options...

First off just want to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...

My question.......do I need ceramic headers?

I want to get headers to replace my set of manifolds and I have heard that I should probably get ceramics (my dad told me) and I think that would be great but they are really pricey (well all I have seen is $300+) is there any ceramics less than that? I know you get what you pay for but still....I'd rather pay lower....or can I get regular stainless steel ones and paint them with black engine paint for the heat? or will that even help?

i got a 84 k10...i put some jegs long tube headers..they were around a 120 bucks or so...theyve been on for about three weeks now and have been working good so far. noticed the power increase too...no i noticed my gas mileage go down since i like to get on it so much more lol

Mine are coated Chevelle headers. I like them. It keeps temps down. Especially since I'm running electric fans. It's really a matter of choice and looks. I needed something to match the clean looking engine bay.



They were not high end dollar wise. It's starting to show too. I'm seeing a few small rust specs. I'll probably remove them and get them coated by a good shop.

Another question....I recently got a new exhaust system (minus the headers) and (if) you put in headers after everything else did you notice a change in the sound? like maybe it got a little louder?

yes it will sound better, especially playing with the pedal around town lol

ya mine are the jegs long tube headers with some thrust after burner mufflers, it sounds good. it kinda sounds like a car but still sounds good....i dont like that real loud crackling sound. sounds toughter than it is lol

Get some new headers and put 'em on, even snugging all bolts, to check for fitment. Once they're good to go, send 'em to NitroPlate. They're the ones that most of the racers I know use, much less problem with discoloration, flaking, rusting, etc. than the high volume guys.

i have a set of hooker longtubes huffin under my hood and i couldnt be happier with them. heard of some people having to trim the frame, but mine seem just fine bolted on, no probs with leaking or anything and they are the ones made for the truck. they dont seem to hang very low below the frame rails like some of my other trucks in the past which is nice, always plan on goin lower
