Great progress Jay...I'm sure that this one will turn out just as nice as that 56....Are you going to reuse that trailing arm x-member??...If not, I could use the bracket I have circled....it's the carrier bearing mount for a 2-piece driveshaft

Powdercoating is probably out of my price range so I'll be painting everything.

Re: Mieser's 71 Short Wide Project

How do like the HOK digital paint booth? Do you think it is worth the money? I'll be using HOK on this truck and I've thought very seriously about purchasing the digital paint booth to play around with. I read on another post that there may possibly be a new version due out sometime early this year?

You actually might be surprised most times. I found a local PC shop that gave a rough quote of a-arms, frame, crossmembers trailling arms, brake drums (not sure why??), rearend, etc. for $700 and that was blasting and PC'ing.

Check around it can be cheaper than you think.

Got the trailing arm crossmember all bolted in tonight. Next up is getting the rear end all bolted up. Hopefully I can get some of that done this weekend.

I don't know much about air systems, so I have a question. Do you have to buy a pump or are you going to put manual ports to fill air bags to the height that you want?

Re: Mieser's 71 Short Wide Project

Matt,

This will be the first vehicle I've put bags on so I'm not an expert on air systems by any means. My plans are to purchase an AccuAir eLevel air management system. It will have an air compressor that will deliver the air to an air tank which can then be used to fill the bags themselves.

I hear you there, it costs me $1200 a winter to heat my floors, last year i just gave up on that idea, filled the pipe with antifreeze and bought a Hawt dog heater.

Thats a great project. Wish i could find a truck half that good to start with.

Re: Mieser's 71 Short Wide Project

I just love a good Saturday where I can get some things accomplished. Got the rear end bolted in today. Everything on the back end is now bolted up except for the shocks. Bad weather is moving our way so I'm glad I was able to get something done today.
