Need to get the rear a little lower
Hey guys I am in need of some help. I have already lowered my 1972 lwb and I love it. The problem, for me anyways, is that the rear is just to high. I dont mind a little rake to the stance but not to the extent that it looks like a stink bug. Specs are 2 1/2" ECE spindles and CPP 2" springs up front with 4" rear mono leafs and 2" shackles out back. So my plan is to raise the front of the rear leaf spring hangers up 1 1/2" to get a more even stance, has anyone done this? Was your pinion angle way off? Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Need to get the rear a little lower
Stock leafs and a flip kit will get you lower.
You'll need a bolt in c-notch. Sorry I can't help with moving hangers around. Posted via Mobile Device

Lotsa work for an inch. Though I've seen people body drop an inch, so this seems plausible in comparison. To answer your original Q, moving the hanger 1.5" should net you ~.75" of drop and likely wouldn't affect your pinion angle much, but it can't hurt to measure it once you're done, just to be sure

Re: Need to get the rear a little lower
i've seen the 73-87 guys do this with no issues, I can't see why it would make a difference on the older trucks but I have not tried it before.

Re: Need to get the rear a little lower
Correct. This is an economical way to lower a 73-87, so there should be no reason why it won't work on a 67-72 leaf spring truck as well. You already have the shackle, so this "should" put your pinion angle back near stock.

And btw I am at my max budget for lowering my truck so I have to manufacture a way to get more inches. If I could do it over I would definately do a flip kit. |

Re: Need to get the rear a little lower
get in touch with Keith Seymore, his little red 87 R10 has this raised spring hanger drop, he may be able to tell you how low it will get you from moving it up to the next set of holes or more.

I was just doing public math- your results may vary slightly due to curves/angles. See example below. ]_______O_______[ If you raised only one end of this 'leaf spring', and left the other end stationary, the axle would only see half the amount of that movement, since it is in the middle of the spring. So, move your front hangers up 2" for 1" of drop, 1.5" for .75", etc... Again, these are approximations. The amounts advertised on the store bought parts refer to the proposed final lowering measurements, not necessarily how much they move a given mounting point.
