1971 chevy extended longwheelbase
i have recently came acrossed parts that once where on a 1971 chevy extended wheelbase truck. In which i heard this truck was supposted to have a 402 c.i. engine. From what little information i could find on the internet, chevy extended some long wheel base trucks an additional 8 inches. i was wondering if was supposted to be a rare truck? i heard the bed from the 71 chevy is still around and in good shape.

Re: 1971 chevy extended longwheelbase
I believe your talking about a Longhorn, extended 6 inches, fairly rare yes, about 3 or 4 Longhorn owners on the board

Re: 1971 chevy extended longwheelbase
Was this a Fleetside Pickup or Stepside or cab & chassis? The factory didn't extend any frames, but they did make one tons in 133" and 157" wheelbase. The 133" is the frame used on C/20 & C/30 Longhorns and C2500 & C3500 Custom Campers. They are 6" longer than the longbeds @ 127" wheelbase.

Re: 1971 chevy extended longwheelbase
When I was a kid, the neighbor had a '71 Longhorn - just because it was the only truck
that would handle the camper shell he had. I think it was a 133" wheelbase & had the 402 if I remember correctly. It was huge!

Re: 1971 chevy extended longwheelbase
went out to look over the bed from the 71 this evening. It's laying upside down directly on the ground. the wood floor is long gone. the sides look straight. But what has me wondering, would the top of the bed sides still be good, after all the years laying directly on the ground? i'm interested, but at the same time, not really sure. i'm thinking about trying to save the side mouldings off of it, for a restorer.
My question, besides the additional lenght, was there anything else that made the trucks special? Thank you for your time |
