Center Console Blueprints
Spent a couple hours designing a new console for my truck. Wondering your guys' opinion on it. The front runs the height of the dash, going from the underside of the dash pad down. Was kind of implementing the idea of a lot of newer cars and trucks, where they have the center console connected to the dash. (At least the appearance of being connected) The dash as well as the center console will be covered in fabric. Thinking I'm going to cover the dash in Suede (Not the dash pad) and the console in some vinyl and suede. Also, my dad pointed out I forgot a spot for the t-case shifter, so I'll have to tweak it. Mostly looking for opinions on how it sweeps off the dash pad down. Well, what do you guys think?

Re: Center Console Blueprints
Thats FANTASTIC! you rock !
the only thing that i wonder about is, will the cup holders be close enough to the edge of the storage area to keep you from being able to fit a big gulp in them. But it looks great either way.!

Re: Center Console Blueprints
What he said about the cup holders! I designed and built a console for my son's car and thought the cup holders were just right............NOT. If you are gonna have them, make sure they will fit BIG stuff and you'll be able to put and remove the cup from it when installed in the truck.
BTW: What CAD package are you using? CrashBob

The pictures show up good, you on the "work computer? sometimes those block photos on forums. Pretty slick work there Nova70 there are a lot of times i wish I had a built in console in front of the seat rather than the plastic junk catcher that is on the trans hump now. |

I like it too! My $0.02 worth is also looking at the cup holders to make sure they will be fully functional, extend the rear more to hide the radio (you'll be able to see it from the side if you design it as shown in the pic), and maybe consider something else for the heater control. If you move the heater control, you'll have to extend all the wires to make them function which to me sounds like a lot of work when an aftermarket piece might fit the look better than a stock controller.

Re: Center Console Blueprints
I agree with the suggestion about heater controls.I think I would leave the heater controls as they are, drop the height to the bottom of the dash and do it almost exactly like you have the lower part of it.This would also give you a good mounting point under the dash(use the original ashtray screws for the top of the console.

Re: Center Console Blueprints
thanks for the replys and suggestions guys!
I've seen those truck consoles but I like doing my own work. As for making the console longer, that impossible. It goes from the back of the cab to against the dash. That entire section of my dash is getting cut out. The heater controls are only moving about an inch up and maybe 2 inches forward. I'll figure that out when I get the console built. I'm also thinking I'm going to revise the cup holders back. Think I'm gonna go with a smoothed wave type armrest. I'll post pics up tonight. It's google sketchup PRO that I use as well. Edit- Hottrucks, I've seen your center console, you helped me with my current center console as well. I'm going to have this new one professionally upholstered. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Center Console Blueprints
Yea I may strip mine and send it out but it works so who knows my truck ain't no show truck.....
Keep in mind all the junk behind the dash if you cut it out........like the heat and defrost?? also a radio delete panel is a great place to put a couple guages ( my air ride guages are in mine) other stuff I can think of real quick ( are you pulling the tank??) I used a piece of 1/8 paneling to build a panel in front of my tank and put a piece of carpet on it looks great and keeps the gas sloshing sound out along with the heat/cold ( about $10 and some time) I think relocating the tank for more space is a waste of time since the seats wont go back any futher anyway.... with the two 5 1/4" in the center consol and the two 6x9's in the doors (hooked to the radio out put @ 40 watts) and the 10 sub and 400 watt amp in the center console it about all I can stand...I and others think it pounds very well considering my budget on the system was about $200...lmao..funny the stuff you can pick up on CL or have laying around.... |

Re: Center Console Blueprints
Ahh...so this console goes all way up to the dash pad? That's pretty cool. Hopefully there's enough slack in the lines for the heater control only moving it that much. Good luck and nice looking design (again).

Re: Center Console Blueprints
I hope the heater lines will reach, if not I have all summer to get something to work. I'm going to inspect the back of the dash when I get home to see what might be in my way.
