which tranny is better

my tranny just went out on my daily driver... sucks!! i have a 700 and theres alot of good deals on craiglist, so i was wondering is a 400 better than a 700? i dont know much on this subject... anything helps thanks...

the word better can mean more than one thin, esp when looking at these two trannys.
If better means stronger, then the 400 is better (by far)
If better means low RPMS and better MPG on the freeway, then the 700R4 is better.

well someone is selling a performance rebuilt turbo 400 for $550.. so does that mean the 400 has a higher rpm?

in that case, recommend a beefed up 700. best of both worlds - but pay attn to the hp ratings (or more importantly, torque ratings). A beefed 700 should suffice as long as you're not racing. good luck!

The 700 will make a significant difference in enjoyability on the highway - save you gas. And have a steeper 1st gear which will "feel" like more acceleration in 1st gear (because it IS more acceleration).
