new axles...good deal?

just bought axles for my truck...i got a 84 k10 4x4...and i got two axles powder coated for sixty bucks...did i get a good deal? the guy said it had 3.73 gears in it...right now im running 3.08 in my truck...so it is really slow....im wanting to get a 700r4 someday in my truck...im running 35's is 3.73's good with that tranny/tire combo?

Thats not a deal, thats plain out stealing. You can't even buy the bearings for 60.00 bucks. The 3.73 set is much better than what you have, but not as good as 4.10's would be. Still a great steal....er...deal.

A stock 700R4 will not last long with 35" tires. Wow, powder coating was cheap! If it was that cheap around here, I would powder coat a ton of parts.

well just the tie rod end that i need cost more than that...but i know the 3.08's wouldnt last with the 700...but i read on another forum post that the 3.73/4.10 would be better with 35 inch tires than what i have now...now i have a th350...now im starting to wonder...

bit better than the deal I got..... bought a pair 10/12 bolt 373 $200

Front axle had rebuild kit and new ball joints, but needed a new ring and pinion, rear was solid with a posi, I bought a master kit for it. Hope to have it all in soon. My 84 SPID indicates 2.73 axles w a 700r4, miseable to drive, would need to run 80 to get the converter to lock up.

i paid sixty for both axles....and thats what i was telling my wife....you usally cant touch a axle for less than a 150 a piece....so i really couldnt pass up this deal....they are not all complete but ive got everything i need on the other axles on my truck so its cool.

i plan on going with 4.10's at some point but with the tranny i got i think the 3.73 will be better for now...once i get the tranny i want then im going to get the other gears....oh and sailtojapan...i got ten bolts..sorry.

I'm jealous of the deal you scored. I'd love to find a set of the 3.73's to bolt on in place of my 3.08's, but haven't had much luck locally, and when you add shipping on top of purchase price it gets out of my comfort zone pretty easliy.

I'm running 35's on 4.56's with a 700r4 and it sails down the freeway... around 2k rpms at 70mph

thats a ok deal, not to rain on your paraid but those are just half tons and 35's wont last to long if you do any wheelin at all. and a 700r4 will last if its mildly built. i picked up a 14 bolt full floater rear and the hubs for the front to make it a 8 lug for my truck for a 100 bucks on craigslist so idk

35's are about the biggest I'd go with a half ton axle, for wheeling. 37's if it's a street queen. I think you'll be fine if everything's rebuilt. That was a good deal, I just wouldn't buy half ton axles personally.

35's are as big as i wanna go....i wouldnt have wanted bought half ton axles but they were a good deal and they are easy to swap out with what i have now...and i just bought those tires in august....so when it comes time to need new axles you can bet ill be going to some 3/4 ton axles...it was just easier getting these...kinda workin with limited funds right now lol

Keep in mind you're going to get no advantage with swapping in a 3/4 ton front axle other than having the same amount of lugs on the front as the back. The 3/4 ton rear is a lot stronger than a half ton rear, but the fronts are essentially the same but the 3/4 ton has 8 lugs instead of 6. If you want a true upgrade, I'd go with 1 tons if you have the money. It's kind of weird. If you're going to be wheeling at all, definitely go with 1 tons over 3/4 tons, strictly due to the similarity between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton front ends. It really gets you nowhere durability-wise even if you don't use 4-wheel drive at all. If you're not going to go bigger than 35's, then the half tons should be fine with mild wheeling. As long as you're not beating the hell out of it, they should do just fine.
