It will bolt up to the engine but thats about it. You would need some kind of controller for it to shift and probably modify everything else from the crossmember to the driveshaft

you just have to move the cross member back and depending weather you have a short shaft or a long shaft in your 78 depends weather you will have to shorten your drive shaft any. the 99 trans will bolt in and work just fine but you will need a controler and to convert the speedometer to mecanical drive.

The ls trans will not fit the old style block without some spacers or adapters. the crank flange dimension to the bock face is different. Jay

I would just pull your 700r4 and have it rebuilt would be the easiest way.

I recieved a 92 700r4 yesterday and it came with a b&m Shift improver kit minus the valve body, I tore the bottom of mine out and installed the kit, now im just waiting on someone to help me carry it from my laundry room to the truck lol. Sucks not knowing anyone in Tulsa.

Re: Would a 99 tranny fit in my 78

^ double check your date, that should be a '92, GM went to the 4L60E in '93. You should have one of the best 700's, though.
Good luck, hope it goes well.
