...noticed that a lot of the add on accessories are chrome plated (i.e., interior pieces/knobs/door handles/window handles, bumpers, and esp. side mirrors), but is there a company that sells stainless steel products??

Yes there is the mirrors I have for my 69' from Classic Parts are polished stainless steel as well as my bed strips are polished stainless steel and tail light mounts. The door handles from the factory I believe where chrome plated I believe so no stainless there.

Hmmmm...how about bumpers and grilles??? At least the exterior trimmings or accessories we use often (like the door and window handles).

Haven't ever seen stainless steel bumpers but the grills for 69-72 are polished aluminum and I know you can get reproductions just like the originals but some are chrome plated which I believe LMC sells some chrome plated ones but I might be wrong.

I see... I was referring to the 67/68 grille looms. I wish they have polished aluminum bumpers at least since chrome are more prone to rust!

that would be nice to have a SS bumper that was never prone to rust but buying one would break the bank (at least mine). i would guess based on what my company pays for parts, equipment, or raw stainless stock that a one if produced may cost as much as $2500-$3000 or more. to be honest i dont think any carmaker has ever produced a SS bumper, not that i am aware of, and i've been here quite a few years.

Its too hard to work with, and it "will" rust.

I have some pix of a '66 El Camino that had all of its' aluminum trim, previously anodized like our trucks....that had a brushed finish like stainless steel. It was amazing. Here' a pic of some of it.

Maybe that would work for you.

As for stainless bumpers....probably wouldn't be the best material in the long run. Cost of such an item would be high, to say the least.

304 or 316 will not rust
18-8 which is a cheap stainless will tarnish and show rust

There are many companies that make ss bumpers for semis, usually retail around a grand...just a thought

Not only have I seen it rust, I have an industry expert to vouch for my findings.

there is SS that won't rust it depends on the quaility of the alloy you start off with, i've had an assortment of SS trim from 60's GM cars laying outside for the last 20 years and there is'nt a speck of rust on any of it even in near 100% humidity Louisiana. my point was that SS bumpers are cost prohibitive for most of us and SS AIN'T what it once was on average............................................................................................. ......
