FENDER crayon marks

This might have been discussed elsewhere, but I couldn't find anyone talking about the crayon marks on the INSIDE of fenders. As you can see from the picture below, my 70 has marks for the job number ( 635 ) and the fact that it was built with factory air. Does anyone else have any pictures of their marks ? Thanks !!!

Re: FENDER crayon marks

I've seen the firewall marks but not on the inside of the fender like that. Thanks for sharing!

Re: FENDER crayon marks

I didn't have fenders to go by as I bought my Blazer without the front clip or interior, but the number '303' is stamped into the cowl on the drivers side, written on the back of the gauge cluster and was written on the backside of the drivers bedside in front of the rear wheel. I don't have a pic of the bedside as I replaced it, but here are pics of the other two:

Re: FENDER crayon marks

do the crayon marks on the firewall give a truck more value??? and wouldn't they wear off in the years?

Re: FENDER crayon marks

My 70 still has the crayon marks on the firewall too - that's the main reason I didn't have the firewall painted when the color was changed. I think anyone who's looking for an original, unrestored truck, would probably pay a little more to have things like crayon marks visible.

Re: FENDER crayon marks

Thanks for posting.

You are correct. That is the build sequence number (or manifest sequence number). Any component that was built up in a remote area of the plant and conveyed to the main line should have that number for tracking purposes. This would include hood, fenders, grille, rear axle, front axle, at least one tire/wheel assembly, seats, frame, engine/trans, etc.

My truck was number "87":

The stamped number on the Blazer plenum is for the same purpose; it keeps track of that cab until it makes it through the body shop and then the paint shop, when the crayon markings can be added.
