Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
That looks very good with a straight shot to steering box. Looks better than stock so just role with it.

That is how I tested mine too. Looks aren't as important as it being comfortable for the driver, which will usually be your wife if I remember correctly?

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Thanks guy's, makes me feel better about keeping the column. If I had paid more attention to Kabwe's build. I'd a seen his set up and never asked. I haven't built up the seat with tracks yet. But It "should" be in the right spot. Patrick, your right about the truck being for the hen of the house. Hopefully I can get the seat to slide close to the wheel and far enough back, in case I drive it. I was thinking about shortening the column, however, it's a collapsible column. I want it to do it's job in a head on crash. I just won't open the hood as much.

Looks awesome. I can't tell from your photos if you cut the turned up lips on the front and back of the step off or not. I have seen some cut them and others leave them. Do you know what I am talking about - any thoughts?

I kept them on there for added support. Plans are to cover the area with carpet.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I like the idea of keeping them as they will keep debris out of those corners and hopefully prevent rust build up.
How did you weld those corners - also from the back side? 56hotrodred |

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Nothing to add on my build. However, I received a free e-mag today from the Goodguys Gazette. It was a pretty good read with some really nice rides. I just thought I'd share with you guys.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Just an FYI on your seat but, I had one just like that and the upholsters said they were a nightmare to upholster. It seems that on the nice ones like that, the material is bonded to the foam. The ones that came out of the cheaper models and post 95ish don't have the same problem.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
xpickup- Nothing new with the GMC. I'd like to do some mods to the bed. Like round the head panel and extend the top rails with a curve to match the rear of the cab. May be this summer I'll get it done.
renegade6- I just went out to the garage to check the seat. I see exactly what your talking about. It's going to be fun to separate the upholstery without tearing up the foam. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
I pushed the old pig out of the garage today. I tried to get it all the tin on it. So I can get down to finishing mounts and such. The pass side lower door hinge is shot. So I wasn't able to do anything with the door. It's been cut rewelded and then cut some more. Took me a few hours to just get it free from the door. I ordered one, along with some front fender patch panels (lower rears). I remember someone stating the front fenders don't match up very well with the rockers. If that's true, I'm going to try and cut a little extra off when I burn the patch panel in. Hope I can get it somewhat even.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
Great build, do you have any more info on your rear suspension? i put an after market ( RB'S Obsolete when it was still open) leaf spring/ flip kit on mine, but it didn't lower it like i thought it would. I've pulled a few leafs and added a lowering block. Much better, However if you can, i would like to see a few more pictures of yours. Thanks in advance.

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
pipty6- I have my bed back on, I'm mocking up some mounts. I should have it back off in a week or so. I'll get some pics then.
I had the wife replace the lower tin on the fender. There's a couple burn throughs. But, for the most part it came out pretty good. I didn't take to much time grinding down the welds. I'll take care of all that later. It kills me to not be able to tap out the dents on the panels. All I'm allowed to do is cut out/clean up the rust. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: SGTUSMC '59 build
You are indeed a lucky man SGT.
Is that your Tacoma out front? I have a red 08 double cab. Putting a 3 inch lift on it next week. That lift looks at least 6 inches. Keep up the good work. 56hotrodred (Barry) |
