Dash Ideas
Ok here is the deal I want to do a totaly custom dash but my problem I need some Ideas. post some picks of custom dashes. below is a pick of what i am working with

Hey! I think I recognize that one. It isn't a 50th, if you look at the door panels, they are 69 panels with the scrolling and no wood grain. (wood would make them 70)

Get yourself a tilt steering from a 80 camero or TA
Then some nice Stainless gauge set up (with mint Tack) weld up the middle and the glove box and make it smooth and clean looking! If you moter sings ya won't need a radio!LOL Just my $.02 \ Cheers Glug Glug Glue Blaaat!

This idea is already taken
  Here's just a quick Pshop mockup. The finished dash face and top will be covered in padded vinyl, then the dash pad will bolt on, done in same vinyl, then a modified bezel will also be done in vinyl and popped on there. I'll post some progress pics of the bezel when I get a chance.  Kenneth

I think this may be alot of work, but I think a newer model dash say 95' up would look good in place of the stocker with newer leather interior. Classic lines with a modern touch.

if you want to get creative, look at some of the 49 to 54 chevy car dashes, they are pretty flat and may work or possible a early chevy pick up

thanks for all that have posted. I still dont know what i want to do. being that it is destroyed and I am going totaly custom with the inside and out of the panel i wanted to do something different. I was thinking of a late model firebird gages or going with the dakota digital flame gages set dont know yet dont want to spend 600 bones on the dd set.

I was watching (don't crucify me for this) Hi-RevTuners on SpeedTV yesterday and they were doing a sub/amp/NOS bottle panel for the back of a hatchback. They made a simple mold out of wood (just the basic frame) and streched the fiberglass mold fabric over the top of it. Then they coated the fabric with resin and they had a custom panel. Got me thinking about how easy it would be to use this stuff to make custom dashes/center consoles.

Another technique I've used over the years, especially where the panel is going to be highly-curved is to build a solid panel out of green "plant" foam (try a craft store like Michael's). Then use heavy grit sandpaper to shape it like you want... the stuff sands easily, but don't breathe it in *cough cough*. After you get the final shape you want, cover it in Saran Wrap, then start laying on your fiberglass. After it kicks over, pop it off and you've got yourself a mold. Use mold release spray or line it with Saran Wrap and lay some glass inside the mold and soon you'll have your panel. Finish it off with a little body filler and then cover in your material of choice. Kenneth

Here is another idea. Stick with the stock look. Get a stainless dash insert from covan classic and the new 67-72 dash pad from just dashes. The dash pad covers the whole dash, has vent cu outs, AND has holes bnuilt in for 3 2 1/16 gauges. Check it out.
