1972 c-10 grill rivets

i have a 72 c-10 with a 6 cylinder engine and 4 speed manual transmission. Recently i was able to get a used grill shell for free. It's rough but in way better shape than what i have. The new grille comes without the mounts onthe side to bolt it to the fenders. So i gotta drill the rivets to remove the ones from the old grill. So my question, is it possible to reproduce the look of the original rivets? This truck is a mess, its more of a parts trucks than anything else. i'm trying my best to repair it on a small budget

I couldn't find anything that looked right, so I used small carriage bolts, sanded the heads smooth to remove the markings on them, then painted them flat black. They look alot like the original rivits.

My truck isnt a show truck and it sounds like you arent going for that either. Why dont you just rivet it back on? I just grabbed my rivet gun and a hand full of rivets and put my new grill in. It looks great and the rivets dont stand out at all, even when you are looking right at them.

There is a place on ebay called florida auto fasteners that offers rivets that are actually bolts with rivet heads. They look like the solid top stock rivets without the install headaches that the stock rivets present. You can get 50 for $7 or so.

like the rivet idea. it's not gonna be a show truck. i'm hoping gonna make it look sort of original, like it's been sitting in a barn for years. Something that looks good, but can still be a lot of fun. without worry of scratching the paint
