inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

hello everyone, i currently have a stock 250 with the stock manifold and a single pipe going into a thrush glasspack that dumps just behind the cab. i took it to a local shop to have a newdown pipe put on and just a cheap muffler so i could be somewhat legal and the old down pipe was paper thin and had holes. so i have been driving with a not so good sounding exhaust for awhile and im ready for a change. i thought of cutting the glasspack off and putting a flowmaster or a magnaflow in and running a pipe from there to infront of the drivers side rear tire. but im not sure if that would change the sound that much. or for the better. so i guess what im asking is can you all that have inlines post up how your exhaust is set up what muffler and any experiance you have about sound, and how it sounds. im looking and hoping for a more deep tone and less rasp/pissed off bee sound.

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

I have a 250 with Clifford performance intake with a 4 barrel eddlebrock carb and Clifford dual shorty headers. The pipes rum from the dual headers and Y together then I have a single in single out 40 series flowmaster in the stock location and the tail pipe is stock just behind the driver tire. When idling it sounds like a V8 put not so much when running down the road. But I think it sounds good. I'll see if if I can get some exhaust pics up tonight. I do have pics of my engine in my album.

Me too!!
Langdon's headers into 2 1/4" pipes back to dynamax turbos above the trailing arms and then 2" tailpipes. Sounds like a v8 too.
Run your exhaust all the way out the back. It's quieter!!

I don't think you are going to be happy with it unless you run it all the way to the back. It is amazing how much difference it makes. All of my exhausts are stock type even the two sixes... all the way back.

Running the stock exhaust I agree with Leon. Your best bet is stock all the way back.

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

ok so better sound if the tail pipe in the stock location or just out the back?
if you have duals are you running one pipe on the drivers side and the other on the passenger side? or just running both allong the drivers side?
any one running flowmasters?

On mine the passenger side goes under the pan in front of the sump. Run them out the back and it's quieter.

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

In your first post you mentioned you had a stock exhaust manifold, so I just assumed you were going to run a single pipe. As you've read in the last several posts there's several ways to go........
If you're going to run headers, here's one more way: 2 1/4" off the headers into a late model muffler mounted backwards (it's a flow through) with a 3" down pipe behind the cab. Sounds good, but not too loud

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

im torn between the stock manifold and headers so im open to ideas for both. for some reason i dont want to have exhaust running down the passengers side if i did duals.

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

I have a 250 ci with Clifford Performance stuff...cam, intake (Edelbrock 500 cfm 4 bbl carb), shorty headers, x-pipe. I've got the dual shorty headers bolted up to 2 1/4" pipes, welded in the X-Pipe, then through Magnaflow 3 chambers, then straight out the back of the truck. I think it sounds good. Definitely sounds like an 8 cylinder at idle and low rpm.

Re: inline exhaust setups(yes another one)

i have some random peices of exhaust pipe, what i think i will do is see if putting a pipe from the muffler back to stock location or maybe some other spot trying to find the best set up for the best sound with the glasspack.
