tailgate chrome question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have the chrome for my tailgate the piece that runs at the same height as the handle now I have been told the hand piece goes in first but this does nto work for me and also i cannot get the clips in place they go in but wont go in far enough should i redrill the holes ?
any help would be good thank you
