350 Trans. Question..
I have a short shaft the is rebuilt and works fine. I also have a long shaft that is no good at all. Which is better to have, a short or long? And why. Could I switch the tail shafts?

I have the long drive shaft for short tail shaft tranny. I was just wondering if there was some performance difference. Thanks for the info.

Generally the short shafts are a little better for performance w/ short driveshafts. I don't think there is a lot of difference between the two but I would go with the short shaft for strength also. Short/wides trucks have this little advantage because of less distance from the engine to the differential. I believe this to give them a small edge on long beds performance wise.
As far as gear ratios they should be the same. If you have a lot of power and would like an O/D and cost isn't a factor there are ways around that. This is the setup I would like to have running. Hughes HD TH-400 with the 2.75 1st gear - 2200 stall - Transgo shift kit - HD trans cooler - gear vender over/under drive system - 3.42 gears or better (higher numerically) - Eaton Posi - any size tire you want to run. Of course this is all suited to my engine. might be a little over kill but this to me is the best I can get for my setup. |

That sounds AWESOME!! But expensive. If that was all I had to save for I would get a performace set up like that. For now I will have to stick with the 350 and B&M rebuild kit.
