Steering column wont go in park?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 73-74 model gmc van column, tilt,automatic, I took the gear shifter out to paint the column , now that I put the shifter back in it will not go into drive reverse or park position?? anybody know what to do?? thanks

the shift tube is loose in the drive positions, but when I try and pull it up into park it wont budge
