Aftermarket door quality?

What is you opinion on aftermarket doors? Do they fit well?
Should I just reskin and repair what I have?

My truck has AM doors on it and I'm pretty impressed with them. The fit is actually pretty good. I have no complaints. I believe they came from LMC but I'm not sure. They were on it when I bought it. They're just in primer now. I can post pictures if needed.

I would agree. For the most part original metal is better than aftermarket as far as fit and quality. If I needed doors I would try and locate a good used set of doors. JMHO

Use original doors if at all possible, its better to reskin one the mess with aftermarket... But as far as aftermarket goes I have had pretty good luck with the Goodmark stuff...

The PO installed the ones I have now, and I'm not about to take them off to put decent / marginal / re-skinned originals on. I have searched the world over for good GM metal for my truck where it was needed and paid top dollar for it but these are good enough IMO. I don't have a welder or the skill really to cut and re-skin original metal. So before I say 'They suck' .. I'm just saying I'm using AM because they're already on the truck. I have a decent set of originals I will sell if someone wants them.

Nothing about a 67-72 truck sucks in my opinion. I see tons of guys using aftermarket metal on their projects.. some good, some bad. LMC couldn't sell aftermarket metal, Year One, or anyone else for that matter if it sucked. They're making entire shells now.

For what it's worth, my aftermarket doors leave nothing to be desired. The fit and alignment is really good. I will use them and be proud to drive my truck. I'm sorry you guys haven't had better luck with them.

The NEW Key Part 67-71 Doors fit better than anyother door on the market and are even seven pounds heavier than Tri-Plus, LMC, Goodmark, and Counterparts doors.

I swear...if you found a nos door or fender, gave it to someone to install and told them it was aftermarket, they would spend days trying to install it so it fit perfectly. It would all in end in tears and racist comments.
It's bloody hard to install properly.

It is a roll of the dice on all of them. No matter who makes them. I have installed a lot of them. Some of the skins are on wrong, some are to thick, but most had the post to high and had to be lowered. After you fit them and work on them awhile they work great.

As trucks72 said, it's a roll of the dice. If you are cool with possibly losing $700+ or don't mind bad door gaps then go for it. I gambled and lost out. I ended up with garbage. After many hours of work they had to go. I later found a set of original doors and they fit like a glove.

Functionally, aftermarket doors will work but if fit and finish are high on your list, don't even waste your time.

I too have installed alot of them.. and agree with the dice roll comment.. But then I have not seen the new Key Parts doors that Tim Christian spoke of.. Yet..
So fall all the repoductions I've installed have needed the drivers side window frame lowered at the rear. The passenger sides all fitted good, all the skins have been thinner than OEM.. but they are new, straight, not rusty and fit fairly well.

On a funny note I have a 72 Cheyenne Super in the shop that needed a drivers door, and the customer insisted on NOS.. so I found him one to the tune of $900, and it fits horrible.. the window frame was way out of whack, I could litterally put my fingers between the top of the frame and cab.. I couldn't drill out the welds and reposition by lifting it up, the curve was way off, Still had to cut it apart and take a window frame off of another door and fit to the NOS one!!
So much for the "NOS is better" theory!! Its still a roll of the dice.
I could of bought 3 reproductions for the price of one NOS door.. Oh well "the customer is alway right"
