New Parts Truck
I picked up this '66 GMC Custom SWB this week near Fredericksburg, TX. The 305E and 4spd tranny will go in my '64 GMC. The engine has run on propane almost exclusively since new. It appears to have a switch on the dash that allows the driver to switch from propane to gasoline on the fly.

Re: New Parts Truck
I plan on selling what is left. Every panel is dented/bent. No stock bumpers, solid metal bed, bad glass, missing drivers door, poor seat. Inner fenders good, some other good parts.

Re: New Parts Truck
I plan to fill the bed with any and all scrap metal and take-off parts from my '64 and haul it across the scale.

Re: New Parts Truck
I'll need some time before I dig into the spare parts. I'd like to get the V6 running in the parts truck first. After that, then the front clip will come off.

Re: New Parts Truck
a common myth is propane is easier on the engine....it is not...propane runs much hotter than gas and can over time damage pistons in engines not designed for it
sweet parts truck though |

Re: New Parts Truck
I will post pics as soon as I can. The tailgate is Chevy - and I think the entire bed came from a Chevy donor. Rough, rough, rough. I don't know much about propane and how it affects the engine internals. I DO know that my current 3spd tranny is worn out and the 230 a little less of an engine than I prefer. Having said that, the current drive train got me to work and back last weekend (70 miles round trip) without incident. So far my parts truck purchase has yielded a really nice horn button, a nice "Custom" insignia, a good rear view mirror bracket, and "Custom" passenger door trim. The floor pan is as solid as can be and the front seat, though worn, is the thickly padded version. The heater has only one knob so I do not know if it is deluxe or whatever. The truck has a factory w/s washer as well as a few other upgrades. It was originally dark blue with tinted windows.

Hey Andice.
Good to see another ATX member I might bug you about the windshield wiper switch if i can. Mine is a bit wonky. Nice score on the powerplant.

Re: New Parts Truck
Bob: I think I will switch out the wiper switch with the one from my parts truck. Thye parts truck appears to have a 2 speed wiper motor as well as a stock w/s washer. There is a little button inside the the main knob. The one currently on my truck works fine. More to follow.

Re: New Parts Truck
Unknown cluster condition since the battery is long-dead. I'll hook up a good battery tomorrow and turn the key to see if I have any lights, horn, ignition, spark, etc. There is no fuel line connected to the carb so I may pour a little gas down the throat and cross my fingers. I do know that the little red and green idiot light lenses are gone. Only a speedo, fuel and temp gauges. No clock or tach.

Re: New Parts Truck
Clyde: When I mentioned the "solid metal bed" I should have said that the original wood bed has been replaced by a sheet of metal. The bed is in no way "solid". There are probably some good cross rails. The tail gate is crap. The front bed panel has been pushed up against the cab. No trim on the bedsides. Hopefully I can post some more images tomorrow afternoon.

Re: New Parts Truck
Andice, I am interested in the bed, I would be happy if the bed sides were mostly good, I have a almost perfect tailgate and I can buy the head gate.

Re: New Parts Truck
Here we go. A real mess of a body. However, I feel good about the engine. It turns over nicely, but a weak spark. A new coil, points and condenser should get us going tomorrow.
