Exhaust what would you do?
Debating on whether or not to get the local exhaust shop to do the exhaust or mail order kit. The kit it $309 to my door but comes with no hangers kinda old and might run into a few snags on way (Dynomax exhaust kit) or local $300 but does not include mufflers. OR the other option is take it 30 mins from house and have exhaust but that cost around $350 for package. Not sure either locals will do H pipe like kit comes with.So which do I do?

Kinda figured you would recomm local for multi reasons. Anyting to ask or request when getting exhasut installed or watch out for? Also whats a decent middle of the sound level muffler? Looking for not to quite but not to loud?

well if I took my truck in to get exhaust put on the first thing I would let them know is I want it hung between the frame rails due to my truck being lowered so it needs to be above the bottom of the frame. secondly let them know how you want it ran such as all the way back or turned just before the back tires. Also if you have a preference in Diameter/Size pipe you want ran. some guys like 3" Pipe is what I mean. . what ever your choice maybe. thats another reason its good to take it to the local shop you can always have it ran the way you wish. and if there is any problems your local so easy to take back. I am sure others have ideas also to help out.
I do not know about middle sound on the mufflers. I run loud ones so sorry I can not help you there.

I run Flowmaster 50 series...truck-like sound without
having my ears ring when I climb out of the cab. Tad pricey tho. Most muffler websites have sound-bites you can check out. I had a shop do my exhaust but do shop around. Not all shops are created equal & cheap might be just that. |

I just had 2 1/2" installed on mine with regular turbo mufflers. I am running a 327 bored .040 over with vortec heads. Sounds really good. My understanding is 2 1/2" works good for most smallblock V-8s.

I just installed my 2-1/2" duals with Magnaflow 11226 mufflers on my 70 K10. I used Flowmaster universal kit 15926. I started by using the 8" offset pipes from the headers. I used these because the bends were tight which was needed to clear the transfer case and support. I just cut the offset down to what was needed for each side. I kept the pipes the same height and distant from the frame and between the frame. I then used the 4" offset pipes and brought the pipes in to each other and used the center inlet of the mufflers. I ended up cutting these offsets down about 1" to bring the muffler closer to the frame and to massage the offset so it runs parallel to the frame. I had the 6" offset pipes left and may just use them for turn downs from the mufflers. I used 8 welds counting the collectors, offsets and welding each section. I need to weld the mufflers and install the turn downs. I am debating on an H crossover. I did this because I could not take to the shop (they wanted about $400, I supply mufflers). This cost me about $120 for the kit and though the mig welds are not as pretty as the shop may have done I am very happy with the results. Once I get it road worthy I may remove the turn downs and let the shop run them to the back. I will try and post pictures when I can.

Well. I just installed the heartthrob kit (2 1/4 manifold back) myself this week. It took me 8 hours and one trip to the eye doctor to get some rust pulled out of my eye (also about 24 hours of pain every time I opened or closed my eye). There was a lot of time loosening clamps and rotating things to get it run right, but I'm happy with it. The local shops in Philly wanted $700 for dual exhaust. I got the kit w/o mufflers for $172 and two thrush turbos for $46, so even with the copay for the docs visit I'm still out front.
I think the thrush turbos are good middle of the road sound. If you do it yourself, wear some safety glasses. Posted via Mobile Device
