3spd to SM 465 Questions

A guy who just bought a 4 WD Blazer with a 6 cyl 3 speed on the column bought my roll bar last week and was saying that he wanted to put a 4 speed in it. I haven't had Chevy six cylinder for forty years, and never in a 4WD Blazer, so I didn't know what to tell him on what he would need. I assume that the bellhousing for his 3 speed would work for the 4 speed correct? Does the transfer case bolt right up to the 4 speed using the same adapter (the 4 speed is out of a two wheel drive Burb) as the 3 speed? What about T case crossmember location and rear driveshaft.

No, the pilot hole in the bellhousing is smaller for the three speed.

No, in fact that truck probably has a Dana 20 transfer case and there is no way to hook it to an SM465 with factory parts.

What about T case crossmember location and rear driveshaft.

The location and mounting holes are correct, but the crossmember for an SM465/NP205 combo has more drop so that the t-case will clear the floor pan.
What your friend needs to do is sell the 2WD SM465 and buy a complete SM465/NP205 with the bell housing for his swap. He will also have to modify his crossmember or find the correct one.
