Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Want to buy a 1968 chevy 292 inline 6 engine. Prefer complete running but will buy a rebuildable core. The date and codes do matter to me. The engine codes for 292's that year I am looking for are " UH "or " UR " these were used on manual transmission trucks. If you have one please send me a PM or a post with the full engine code, condition, and price. The code is located just behind the distributor on a surfaced pad and should read something like........ F0503UH ....... Flint, month, day, engine code... 770 401-9307 if you would like to call. Thanks Randy

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
I know its not what you were asking for but I have a complete 1968 250 from a manual trans truck. Was a recent rebuild but truck got wrecked and the guy took the manifolds off to put on another engine. Truck sat outside with no hood for a while and there is rust in the intake/exhaust ports. Might be good for parts for you. Free if you want it. In Raleigh NC.

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Hey Thank You 1972SuperCheyenne ! That is a really nice offer. I have a really cool old forestry truck that I sure would like to find an original 292 for before I invest in its rebuild. I thought it was original but found out it was replaced. Again Thanks...If I can be of any help to you with a project or part or around Atlanta let me know ! Randy

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
OK here's what I found.....
- 377129 - 712925 - CE 3 8 I forgot where the first two numbers were located, but one was on the back where the flywheel goes, stamped in, and the other was on the passenger side cast to the block. I was told this was a factory crate engine ready to go! Hope this helps... A.......

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Hello DieselEater, The 377129 casting number is a newer block made from 1973 up. This is probably a 1978 by the last number in the CE 3 8 code. I sure do thank you for posting it and I did see another member is looking for a 292 so maybe he will pick up on this thread. Thanks again, Randy

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Hello Tmend, Your engine is a 1970 292 engine for manual transmission. It was finished as an assembled engine on May 1 1970. F is for flint, 05 is may,01 is the 1st day and TNA is the designation for a 1970 truck with a 292 with manual transmission. Thank you so much for trying to help. I hope I can help you one day. Randy

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
HI 70chevymanshort, In our trucks the 1st year that has the 3 letter engine codes is 1970, prior to that they were just 2 letters. The F is Flint, the 06 is june, and the 19 is the 19th day. I can not find the CCC engine code in my truck books but believe it is consistent with 1970 6 cylinder engine codes from GM for other models. I do think it is a 1970 and to new for my truck. If it is important to you to document its year send me the numbers and letters behind the dip stick and below the CON 2 casting. Thanks again for all of your help. PS Cade, I come out to Weiser every year... Love Idaho ! Randy

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Hey Orange orange. So like I said I was selling my 292 cuz I'm buying a freshly rebuild 292 to put into my 67. So I go to my boys shop to pay him what I still owe cuz I'm picking up the motor on monday. So out of the blue I remember this thread, I go look at the # and it reads F0305UH. Is that the # you are looking for I thought it was. Just wanted to share crazy how thing work out .

Re: Wtb 1968 292 engine (running or not)
Hey ! March 5th and the UH engine code ! I think I read it that this is your new engine and not the one for sale but thanks for looking ! They are out there if I can just hang in there. There is also another date code to check just behind the dipstick (under CON 2) that is a letter and a few numbers if you want to check them. Let me know and if its for sale. Thanks Randy
