GMC Vin Question

I am trying to find the VIN on my 65 GMC. I have searched this site and they say to look over the drivers door. This is the plate over the drivers door, it does not look like a VIN to me, so where else should I look?

Re: GMC Vin Question

So what part of that is the actual VIN? All of it?

Re: GMC Vin Question

According to the 6066GMC web site your truck is---- 1/2 ton 127" wheelbase made in the Pontiac Mich plant between 1964-66 and has a gross weight under 6000lbs. I'm looking to see if there is a data base that will tell me the date of production on my 61 GMC.

Re: GMC Vin Question

That number is the complete vin number. It will also be on your DMV registeration card. I thought they had a build tag or build code on the truck but mine dosen't have one, and it's about as factory as you can get.

Re: GMC Vin Question

So complete starting from the I on the left through the A? I am trying to get it registered, here in Ga they dont have titles for these so I have to get the Sheriff to come out and look at the truck and write down the vin for submission to DMV. However before he comes out I wanted to make sure this was it.

Re: GMC Vin Question

That's a 1, not a I. 1002 breaks down to 100 = 1/2 ton truck. 2 = 127" wheel base. P = pontiac Mich assembly plant F= 64-66 model year. 29675 is the number built (that's how many they built up to your truck) A= under 6000lbs GVW. My truck is 1502 = 3/4 ton 127" wheel base. CN made in Oakland Ca. and was built in 61. 3489B is the number of units made up to mine and B= onder 7200 lbs GVW. I gave the DMV and my insurance that number and it's what is on the regerstration.

There is an "I" at the far left of the VIN. I think that indicates an inline 6 model and is part of the VIN. So it would be I1002PF29675A.
