When I got married I ran a chain somewhere by the hood latch down to the bumper area. Not pretty but it started when I left.

What was his explanation for being there? I use cheap hood pins with tiny padlocks. A crime deterrent for one thing, and the original latch interferred with my AC condensor set-up.

Too bad search is down, this has been covered before. Some have used hood latch cables from newer vehichles so that the release is inside the cab. I think J.C. Whitney has a universal remote hood latch kit that some have used also.

you can get really good coated cables at bicycle shops to use for a hood lock

You guy live in some great places when it comes to defending your property. If I pulled a gun here to defend my property. They would take away my gun, fine the crap out of me and probably give my truck to the criminal because of all his pain and suffering from looking at the gun. Concealed Carry Permits are pretty much impossible to get in this state for a normal person. To bad you can't wire the hood latch to some serious hi voltage like a spark from the distributor to prevent unwanted people from getting under your hood with the appropriate cutout for yourself of course. Unless your into pain.

Good thread! I,ve been thinking about this alot! Our hoods are to easy to pop! I think I'm going to bolt a chain to the inside of the hood and one by the bumper, then connet the two with a pad lock!! More ideas are great!!

I was thinking about this very thing today. I am moving out and going to college in less than a month, and my truck is coming with me. I have a pretty nice little 350 under the hood, with lots of chrome goodies, nice intake and carb, ect. I don't want to go out to start the truck and pop the hood to find my carb missing when she won't fire.
It appears to be really easy to modify the existing latch. I have already started on it. If you remove the latch, you will see that the handle activates 2 levers, one in the middle of the latch, and the other on the right hand side of the latch which sticks up out of the latch and hooks the hood. If you grind on the handle where the sticking up catch contacts it, operating the handle will only make 1 catch work, the one in the center. The other catch will simply pass through the handle where you grinded on it. Then, drill some holes in the 2nd catch that sticks up out of the latch, and attach a cable. I am using a old cable for a manual choke that i have laying around. Simply fasten the cable to the catch, and run it into the cab. If all this works out, pulling on the cable should release 1 of the catches, and then operating the handle behind the grille will pop the hood right up. I am going to hide the cable under my dash somehow so it will be out of sight. If this works out, i will post some pics. So far it has been very simple.

After my aircleaner got stolen me and my dad made some brackets and put a padlock on it. But after I lowerd it 4 1/2''s in the front I took it off because I kept whacking my head on it when working on it. I want to put a release inside.

i got a lock from pep boys it is a locking chain.
one end screws to the under side of your hood and the other has a thing that slides into a lock. when you pop the hood it opens enough for you to reach in and put in the key. and BINGO. i'll post a pic if someone wants otherwise use yu imagination.
