Re: mpg issue

What are the rear gears and tire size? Does it have OD? A 83 carb is old! I would rebuild it and tune it!! Does it sill have cats? Mufflers? The old stock 305 in my truck could squeeze out 18 MPG and smoking on three cylinders! You definately need some engine work. Replace all the hoses. You probably have a vacuum loss somewhere.

Re: mpg issue

Knowing your rear end gear will help greatly. Look at the sheet inside the glovebox (if you still have it) and see what it says. What kind of mileage are you currently getting?

Re: mpg issue

Are you correcting the speedo for the tire size in your calculations? The speedo will turn a lot slower with those tires.

What is in that 05 - 5.3 and 3:73 rear axle? EPA mpg for 2wd is 14/19, avg. is 17, so you are 35% better than average?
