timing headaches

65 305 v6. new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, vacuum advance, coil, running a holley 550 2brl. dwell set to 30, timing set to first mark. back fires through carb on acceleration. pulling my hair out, anyone have any ideas?

if the timing is set right , then I would suggest it is the accelerator pump in the carb ..... It should start to shoot fuel the instant you start moving the throttle........

Popping through the carb is a lean condition. I would set the timing to around 6 degrees. Factory is 4 degrees. Also check that you don't have any vacuum leaks.
