Re: what gets used more 1/2 ton or 3/4 - 1 ton
I guess one needs to define work? I would assume the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks were purchased for heavier work than a C10 (1/2 ton). But the C10's did a lot of work but just not of the heavy type required of a 3/4-1 ton trucks.
The 67-72 trucks were the generation of trucks that combined work and because of the car typr options were used as a source for transportation as a back up to the car.

The half tons were cheaper unless you got into the more optioned trucks. The heavier suspension has always cost a bit more. I know growing up most people around here were running half tons, you'd see some of the farmers with 3/4 tons, but they usually had a ton and half flatbed for most of the heavier hauling duties. Used to see several tons with cattle racks or a dump bed or wreckers. Just personal observations from growing up in a rural area.

My 3/4 ton was used by the original owner with a cab-over camper, so it was used for vacations and not for every-day driving. This kept the mileage down and probably helped it survive so long.

Same thing with my 3/4 ton camper truck, plus mine had been stored inside most of it's life. I don't think it ever saw any work except for hauling the camper around. LockDoc
