Honestly man.... living in NC we have the luxury of running the old plates.... thats what I did and would do. Mines a 1966 plate.... even found a 1966 Rockwell city tag for the front.

I found the rear tag on Ebay... 7443-KC since my names Kasey It was a sign to buy the truck! I found em a week before I bought it. The front City tag I found at the Goodguys show here in Concord. The Autofairs and Goodguys Is were I would start! Theres people there that sell NOTHING other than plates....
I think its too cool not to do!!
You dont even have to register the old plate just keep your new one current and in the glove box incase you get pulled for whatever reason.

I actually keep a copy of the law about running the 1966 in the glove box with the new tags. I got pulled by a rookie cop once... it came in handy!

It only took 6 1/2 weeks!

When you order your plate, the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will let you know if the personalization is acceptable. If so, they will place your order to have the plate made. As a general rule, the DMV places orders weekly and will receive the plates in about two weeks. Then, you can pick up your plate and put it on your vehicle.
