71-72 Disc brake conv using 67-70 supp
The problem with the conversion is the 71-72 tie rod has a larger shaft diameter and the pin that goes in spindle is larger then the 67-70, if you get the 67-70 outers tie rods they will not fit the 71-72 spindles because the hole in the 71-72 spindle is too big for the 67-70 outer tie rod end pin. If you get the 71-72 inners tie rods they will not fit the 67-70 drag link because the hole in the drag link for the 67-70 is smaller then the 71-72. If you try to use the 71-72 outer and 70-69 inner you find the 71-72 shaft diameter is larger and the 67-70 inner tie rod will be too small for the 71-72 adjuster sleeve. What I did was use the 71-72 outer tie rods and sleeves because they looked stronger then 67-70. I took my 69 inners tie rods to the parts house and matched them up with ones that looked like the pin diameter was the same made sure the length was close to my 69 then I made sure they would fit in the 71-72 adjuster sleeve, if you have a parts house that will let you compare parts it is really easy.
Ok here is what I found you will need 71-72 spindles, rotors, bearings ect., calipers, pads, upper and lower ball joints, and the brake hoses from the frame to the caliper. You will also want to change the power booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve to the 71-72 I did use my 69 booster, master, and purporting valve for a while but it stopped better when I switched to the 71-72. All the part numbers I have are from Auto Zone and are just the inner and outer tie rod ends and the adjuster sleeve. you will need 2 ES2004 Sleeves 71-72, 2 ES415R outer tie rod end for the 71-72 spindles, 1 ES403L inner tie rod end but not sure which side it goes on and 1 ES406L again not sure which side it goes on. I do know that the 406 and 403 will only fit on side so just test fit them. To sum it up you will need all the 71-72 brake, ball joint and spindle parts but you can use the 67-70 suspension and drag link if you want you will just need to get the right inner tie rod ends, again the Auto Zone part numbers for them are ES403L and ES406L. All feel free to add any comment or part numbers you find.
