Center bearing question
Should there be any play in the center support?
I'm guessing not but thought I would ask anyway Mine can move about 1/4 inch or so thanks Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Center bearing question
Sounds like time to change it out. Go ahead and replace the u-joints, and make sure you mark the two halfs so that they go back together the same. If the two halfs get put together 180 out you'll have potential vibrations and you'll be doing it again soon! (Not that I would personally know, it was a friend!)

Re: Center bearing question
center support/carrier bearings for these trucks have a pretty soft rubber insulator. You can move a new one pretty far both laterally and in and out.
you gotta mark more than the 2 halfs ig you change a carrier bearing and ujoints. Gotta mark the trans yoke and enter bolt on yoke.

Re: Center bearing question
I've got no noise or vibrations, just was under checking and noticed I could move it around...so that is normal for that type? Seems it would wear out quickly.

Re: Center bearing question
it is normal to be able to move it. It shouldn't have any free play, but it is pretty easy to move around. If this was solid and the driveshaft had a vibration youd know it in a hurry. Alot of people replace carrier bearings like they are going out of style and don't realize the driveshaft is out of ballance. Some people will even go so far as to spend $100 on a pretty solid billit carrier bearing setup.
