Am I crazy?

Every time I even bring up that I was working on my pickup over the weekend, I get this strange look from the people at work. I did try showing the pictures of the truck, only to no reaction or real interest. There is always this blank stare and then " Why would you lower it like that"or "why would you put that much work into a pickup". In my mind, this is why I come to this forum, to get the gearhead lingo, garage talk off my tounge. Its what makes the specialized forum a good thing. So I ask again am I crazy? Sorry just venting...

The no interest thing can be annoying especially if they constantly talk about their stuff and their life but will not listen or care about anything you say. hard to believe that some people think these pickups are junk. One guy told me that my 68 was a "nice piece of iron but ugly as hell." I understand differences in opinion but anybody that thinks these trucks are nothing special should ask god to forgive them. I joked to him after he said that. I said, "you better ask god to forgive you for that comment."

I got to the point where I don't even talk about my truck unless it's to other car guys. Otherwise I felt like a new parent breaking out a hundred photos of my kid. They'll smile and say it's nice but don't understand or even care.

I had this conversation with a guy at work the other day... He's asked me how much longer on my truck and I told him about $15k and maybe I'll be close. He said I'm insane but he's the one spending hundreds every week on video games. lol

I know what you mean. Had a girl i knew said she liked my truck and when i pulled up in it she came over with her brother and talked about how she always wanted one like it(even sat in the driver seat to get the feeling of it) but right when i went to how easy they are to fix and what i am doing to it i lost them both from the way they looked at me i guess theyll just stick to dance dance revolution and highschool musical

My land lord thinks my jimmy is an eyesore, but whenever i meet one of her friends or family members the jimmy is the first thing they ask about. They always try and guess the year. I dont know why they never get it right... rear wiew mirror on the visor bar... front disc brakes... 71 duh!

Good point. My neighbor spent $15k on camera equipment to use as a point-and-shoot. I couldn't see it. I met a guy in my town with a 70' C-10 that has $150k in it. That's when I realized I actually do have a limit and its way below $150k...but I understand

We are all crazy. It's just what we do. If I'm not messing with my truck I'm fishing. That's all i do, work, sleep, truck, fish. rinse and repeat.

I work with a few gear heads so work ain't so bad... On the other hand,,, You know when you make a high pitched sound and that funny blank stare a dog will give you while caulking their head to the side.. Thats the reaction I get from my wife... Soon followed by "And how much is that going to cost?" I just tell her "about a hundred bucks" She don't know what I was tellin her about anyways.

Same thing at my office, they just don't understand. I drove it work one day and gave a "Car" guy a ride. Of course his car experience is I like this and I like that, he drives a 4 banger Ford. Well I pushed the go pedal on the 5.3 and let it loose. He screamed like a teenage girl....

Most people in our society can't repair or restore anything. If the car is older than sixty months they need to purchase a new one. Are we crazy to play with old iron? we are the smart ones. some of our trucks have been around 44 years and still going strong doing what they were designed to do. I, don't think 44 years from now there will be a site like ours for restoring Prius tin! cheers,Pat
