Cleaning engine and bay?

Hey all, I would like to clean my engine and bay area. It's got a nasty black "film" caked on everything. Just looking in there, you don't really see it.... Once you put your hands on something, you drawl back black soot covered hands. I'm going to pull the alternator, I don't have luck with those and washing . Is there anything else I need to cover or remove????? This is the wifes daily baby hauler, so don't need problems. Also will be doing the 100,000. mile service soon My 2000 Yukon now has 90,000. on it

Re: Cleaning engine and bay?

Be careful around the intake area - There are knock sensors under the intake manifold which are prone the shorting out and throwing Service Engine Light error if they get wet... to fix you must pull intake manifold and replace sensors and harness..
