Anything better than Doetsch Tech Shocks?

4.5/6 drop on my 87 swb. Kit came with Doetsch Tech shocks. I've heard mixed reviews on these shocks, seems to be even across the board though, some hate them, some love them.

I hate them. But it could be because of the awful roads here in CT. On smooth roads and the highway, they seem to perform fine. Once you factor in some not-so-good roads, particularly the front, rides HARSH.

Alignment is set, running 255/60/15 front and 275 rear. I loved the KYB GR-2 I was running with the stock suspension, but that could also be because of stock height.

So what do ya'll recommend for a better shock? Or, is this what I have to deal with on a lowered static drop?

What I did for my '65 was to measure the collapsed shock length, then measure the extended shock length. Armed with this information I went here: http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloa...engthSheet.pdf and picked off the shelf Monroe shocks that worked with the dimensional data I collected.

These shocks were about $25 a piece. If you want a soft ride, that's what I prefer, go with OEM type shocks not the aftermarket stuff. A "performance" suspension means bone jarring, from my experience anyway. I want my truck to look cool, but ride like a Buick.

You state that you have a "4.5/6 drop " but you don't mention how you achieved the front drop. Are you running 2.5" spindles and a 2" spring?

Yes, 2.5'' spindles, and belltech 2'' coils

Great advice. Im the same way, I wanted a caddy like ride, which is one fo the reasons I have an airride setup. When it came time to get shocks, I used the link above, an then bought a set of Monroe Sensatrac shocks for all 4 corners. It rides great, and the shocks really do a great job of absorbing the bouncing and jarring from rough roads. I would reccomend a different shock than you have now if yours are too stiff and not smoothly controlling the shock and rebound of rough pavement like you want them to. The sensatracs are made to give a smoother ride.

I found ECE has the correct KYB GR-2 shocks for my drop in the front! just have to figure out what to use for the rear since 73-87 trucks don't use coil spring rear suspension like the older c10.
