Fresh Paint

Here it is. Born Again!

I sprayed it on Sunday, but just rolled it out today. I've got a couple runs and some overspray to take care of, plus I want to polish it before I put the rest of the stuff back on it. By the time I'm done it should look pretty good for a $100 paint job.

This is the third time I've painted it in the fourteen years I've had it. It takes a lickin'and keeps on tickin'.

I've got a 16 X 24 shed that I painted in. I used Nason acrylic enamel. The paint+hardener+reducer= less than $100. I used pre-packed fleet white. It's quite a bit cheaper that way.

Thanks TJ... You buy the fuel and the paint, and I'll be there brother!

Yeah it does, but I'll stay plain vanilla for a while.

I decided to let the paint cure for a couple weeks before I polish it, so I put it back together for now.

The tailgate came out nice. I fussed with it for hours and hours. I bought a "stud welder/dent puller" for the job. It worked out great.

Re: Fresh Paint

I'm guessing you used a "real" spray gun? I bought a low-pressure, low-cfm spray gun this past year thinking I would do the same on mine, or maybe just under the hood, inside the cab, etc... places like that. Have you ever used one of the low-cfm sprayers? Do they work well at all or should I just find someone with a big compressor to do it with?

I love the all-white look btw. I'm going with an all medium charcoal metalic I think... not sure on the metalic aspect of it yet or not.

Re: Fresh Paint

On the color white: Is it a white-white color or does it have some cream in it? I'm looking for a white - white color? The paint I bought for touche up on a 1972 orignal came out with a little cream look, so I need another choice. TJ

I used a cheap harbor freight gravity feed gun. One of these. It worked fine.

It's not even close to a pure white, much different from the last time I painted it. I didn't plan on re-doing the interior paint. I have to now. I wasn't sure about the color at first, but it's starting to grow on me.

I've only had it out a couple times, but it sure gets a lot of attention. I might cruise it to a show tomorrow. The club I'm part of is putting one on.

Re: Fresh Paint

That Harbor Freight one is the exact same gun I have. Is an 8 gallon compressor enough to run it? Or do you have a big one?

Thanks Bill, I don't think I'll run the cover for the time being. I did a lot of work to make the bed look presentable, so I'll show it off for a while. I might take a different approach to the cover next time. We'll see.

Thanks, I can't wait 'til I get it polished out. I've come to the conclusion that my crappy eyesight has really impaired my ability to spray paint. I just don't see well enough anymore. Next time someone else gets to apply the finish. <sigh> Getting old stinks.

No, and Yes. They're a decent spray gun, but you'll need a compressor that will deliver.

Thanks, I don't think white wheels would look as nice. It would be too much.
