69 craigslist find

My dad and I went to look at a truck and ended up bring home a '69 K20. With a 283 and 4 speed. The major selling point was the old DMI hitch and its a long bed stepper.

She has alot of rust but the drive train and frame didn't get the cancer like the sheet metal. Lucky.

We do not know what rear end is in the truck it has 8 bolts holding the hub on, along with 8 lug nuts on holding on the tire(duh), also the differential cover on the rear has 10 bolts on it and is round. Any input on what it might be would be great to hear. Also on the rear end how do you get the brake drums off, do you have to take the whole hub assembly off to get to the brakes?

More pics. Has the, I assume, original Dana stickers and the transfer case sticker. Pretty cool to see something survived the P.O.

Re: 69 craigslist find

Sounds like an Eaton like mine. Does it look like it has a bolt-on third member sort of like a Ford 9 inch? I think they are called an HO52 or HO72. I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I think you have to pull the axle by un-bolting the 8 bolts and pulling out the shaft in order to get to the large bolts holding the drum on.

Besides the rust, it looks like a cool looking truck! I really want a 4x4, but they seem harder to find. Does it really have a 283?. I thought the V8's were 307, 327, 350 etc. Is it a straight 6?

Congratulations on a cool purchase!

I'm not to sure what you mean by the bolt on third member. Just starting to learn about the rear ends and 4x4 parts lol. It has the straight 6 kinda nice hard to find truck I got my hands on. Sitting behind a barn about 20 min. from my house. Pays to surf craigslist at school during finals

Re: 69 craigslist find

Yeah, it really pays to check Craigslist often. I bought my truck off there too. I saw a nice 67 c/20 on there with ps, pb, a/c, etc. last weekend near me, but by the time I was ready to call, the add was gone!

The bolt on third member looks like a big section that bolts to the axle from the driveshaft side.
