I went to pick up a diamond in the rough...

I was hoping to find a short fleet big block truck with ac, but this is what I got.
It was a step side...long bed
It had step fenders...rusted out at the mounting lip
It has nice aluminum wheels...only 3 of them
The doors looked good...they were rusted out on the under side
It has a genuine GM steering wheel...from a square body
The parking lights are still there...mounted on a smashed grille
The engine towers are there...small block towers
It has a hydraulic dump bed...in pieces
It has ac...coming through the rusted out floor
All I need to do is install a 307 and enter it in the truck of the month contest when they call out for the ugly ones. This truck is so bad that I don't have the heart to place it in the parts forum.
You can't win them all

The speed cable cowl gasket looks good . If those steps are good, they are hard to come by and non-reproduced. How's the tailgate? bed cross sills? Looks like a few good parts.

Looks like a good rear bumper.

I am working on one that looks worse than that.

Re: I went to pick up a diamond in the rough...

Hey Crazy Ray,
That spare tire holder on the side of the bed; does it come off or unbolt. I have never seen one like that. I will keep a look out for one of those for my 68 LWB Stepside. I have a really nice truck, but it has severe CAB Damage on the top with passenger fender dent. No rust on or in the truck. This truck was restored in 1999 in upper California and runs like a champ. I want to start on it, but just don't know what I want to do yet. Anyway, good find. Hope you find a true diamond in the rough.

If you are looking to part it out, I am looking for the long bed steps. Deffinally not easy to find them by any means.

Re: I went to pick up a diamond in the rough...

I will be parting this one next week on the parts forum. I didn't think there were enough parts, but maybe there is.
Art, here's a pic of the wheels

Longhorn, its a home made spare tire carrier

crazy-101, the steps don't look rusty, but one is a bit tweaked

JORGIE, this came from C-10 King's neighborhood...I guess it wasn't short and fleet enough for him

Hello Crazy Ray,
(Longhorn, its a home made spare tire carrier)
Thanks for getting back to me on that. Never have seen that before, but very much like it and interested . I will wait till your sale thread pops up in the parts forum, so I comply with our Board Rules. Thanks Ray.
