Gonna have to change the entire front clip. The grille is shorter on the 81-up, not sure if you can mount the dual lights in there or not. Sure it's possible, but would look like something from the early 80s.

Once the clip is swapped, just a matter of some wiring to get the 4 lights to work.

Re: 79 with an 85/86 dual headlight setup?

To get the hood to mount up from the 85/86 clip, you'll have to cut holes in your cab for the hinges. You'll also have to change out all the wiper linkage and stuff.

Would be simpler to get you a 73/74 setup that looks very good. Many think that is the best look for the squares, and I'm one of them.

But, as long as you have the entire front clip from the 85/86, meaning all the sheet metal (fenders and hood and hinges etc) it can be done in a day.

I was wondering the same thing, but now I'll keep my 74 looking like a 74.

thanks for the info and the welcome to the forum. since the truck is in 6 different colors right now, ill probably end up doing it before it gets painted... i just have never liked round headlights lol. now on to the most difficult part of finding an 85/86 in a jy in not too horrible shape so i can get the clip...
