1963 C-20 No Start

1963 C-20, i can get it to crank over fine, i get backfire from carb and even flames from the header, but no start. It has no fuel lines, so i just pour a little fuel at a time in the carb. from ehat i have read, the plug wires are correct. If i move the dist. a little i can get a little combustion, but not enough to start.

Here is a vid, but battery was going dead on truck

Re: 1963 C-20 No Start

If you're getting a backfire through the carburetor, your timing is not right. Backfires in this case means one intake valve is open when that cylinder's plug fires. Recheck that No. 1 is at TDC (ON COMPRESSION STROKE), recheck that rotor is pointing toward No. 1 cylinder, recheck plug wire routing.

Above all else, be careful in pouring gas into the carburetor when cranking. You very well could end up with a hand full of fire.... which you will automatically throw when you realize it..... BAD.

Re: 1963 C-20 No Start

bring it to TDC and check your firing order 50 cents says you missed a coulpe wires....also be carful with pouring it in....just add a hose to the carb and place a small tank on the other side of the hood (leaning against the winshield) it will gravity feed to the carb and the hood acts like a break if you get a fire under the hood for some reason

what motor is it??

if the plugs are fouled it may have the same symtoms .. Dumping gas down the carb is a good way to foul plugs ... but to makke sure you have tdc on compression stroke just push your finger in the #1 spark plug hole while some one slowly bumps the starter ,when it starts blowing your finger out watch as the timing marks are coming together.. Thats when I turn the crank by hand and line up the timing marks .. then pull the dist. cap and depending on what you have , points or HEI , the points should just be ready to open or the reluctor is lined up with the pick up coils points.... then depending on what engine you have ............ get back to us .......was it running and quit ,or is this a new project ???
