Bed Mounting Bolts
I'm almost ready to re-install the bed on my truck and its been so long since i took it off I cant remember all the details. It is a steel 72 longbed.
I am going to order all new hardware (anywhere better than LMC to get it?). The kit lists Bolts, offset washers, washers, lock washers, and nuts but for some reason I keep thinking there should be some type of rubber spacers or pads between the bed and frame rails? Am I off on that? Becasue I dont see any mention of them in the catalogs for a steel bed, only for the wood beds. Last edited by Chris4x4Gill2; 05-18-2011 at 08:53 AM. |

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
for a metal floor bed i've always gone to hardware store and gotten stainless carrige bolts to mount the bed// have always made my own rubber pads to mount bed// its just common hardware store stuff i see no need to pay shipping costs to mount a bed
that kit your listing offset washers etc i think is 4 a wood floor

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
The offset washers were the main reason I was looking at ordering vs going ot the hardware store.
So you do use rubber pads? what have you found best to make them out of? I was thinking something like a floor mat cut to fit. |

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
Rubber pads are not stock, however a lot of guys opt to use them. You can make them from a thick rubber semi truck mud flap. We also have the bed bolt kits. WES

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
Remember to use a ground strap to ground the bed to the chassis. With a wood bottom bed, and rubber mounting pads your bed will be completely isolated from your common ground. WES

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
It will be a steel bed, will the bolts provide enough of a ground? (using rubber pads)
Probably a good idea to add a grounding strap anyway I think. I've had problems with bad grounds on other things. |

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
I thought that when you were looking for a kit with the offset washers you must have a wood bed bottom. That is what those are for. Either way it is always a good idea to use ground straps... WES

Re: Bed Mounting Bolts
Can anyone tell me the size and length of these bolts? I dont have the old bolts or the bed handy to try and measure myself.
